She tried all her life to lose weight, and nothing worked. She knew she would always be fat.
In a single day, all that changed.
Are you someone who:
(1) Wonders if you will EVER obtain that slender, fit body? (2) Despairs thinking how easy is it for others to stay slender when you can't? (3) Wasn’t born with the resolve to be able to decide one day, “I’m going to kick my ass into shape!”? (4) Keeps trying to “eat better,” but it’s been making no difference? (5) Has been tempted to fast or to purge … because nothing else seems to work? (6) ... or simply is tired of the excess fat, and just doesn’t know what to do?
You may feel like you will never lose the weight. But no amount of fat can change the fact that, underneath it all, the real you is skinny.
Inside, you will learn how to:
* Lose serious weight without resorting to soul-sucking and wearisome diets * Train your body to avoid feeling hungry too soon after eating * Enjoy exercising, even when it makes you feel like you’re going to die * Avoid destructive thoughts and habits that lead to eating disorders * Understand how negative attitudes about fat actually slow your weight loss * Deal with failure and get back on track * Make it through cravings, plateaus, and feeling like giving up * Survive all-you-can-eat buffets * Handle people who try to hinder your success * Overcome embarrassment when exercising amongst fit people * Maintain your weight once you hit your goal (and, of course) * Adjust to your new life as a skinny person!
I'm all for this book, don't get me wrong. But for the author to insist she doesn't have disordered eating is laughable. Let's recap: -blatant ignorance of exercise bulimia or orthorexia when trying to prove she doesn't have an eating disorder -daily mood depends largely on what the scale says that day, or how many calories she's burned -hits weight loss goal, immediately lowers it -sees fat as a feeling rather than a descriptor or object -delighted to feel bones -thinspo -obsession with food and weight of self and others -sees body as 'other' and detests it if she hasn't lost weight
... I'm not saying she's unhealthy, necessarily, but she's definitely not as undisordered as she claims.
This book cured my BED. I don’t share the same views as the author on many topics but what I do share is the same thoughts about myself as she has/had of herself. This book is like a diary but to me it was like an instruction manual on how to stop BED. I’ve never been happier, I feel so free now and I can finally think about things other than food and how disgusted I am with myself. I don’t think this book is for everyone. It may cause people with other types eating disorders to go on a downward spiral so read with caution.
This book is not based on an eating disorder but how to feel good when you do loose weight This is like reading a diary but what I like is she looks at the positive things even if she does not reach her goal as fast as she wants
I read this book cover to cover. I went from thinking that this was another eating disorder book to WOW - this is NOT another eating disorder book. Reality is that this author is correct and has it right when it comes to weight loss. I encourage anyone who needs to get a grip on their health and finally be the healthy weight they need to read this book. Be patient and do not judge until you reach the end. You will be glad that you did.
A great book that nails what keeps people overweight and unhealthy and what to do about it.
This book isn't perfect. For example, the author wrongly thinks that potatoes make you gain weight. Actually, google the internet for the guy who went on a 30 (or was it 60) day all-potato diet (because actually potatoes contain all the nutrition you need, which you will see if you enter a sufficient calorie diet of nothing but potatoes in a nutrition calculator). He lost something like 21 pounds eating several pounds of potatoes a day. It is what we put on top of potatoes that makes us gain weight.
I'm currently losing weight counting calories and running, and this book just adds to my motivation. I currently don't run as fast or as long as I wish I could, but I know my goal will be achieved. I love the food suggestions Alyssa gives, and I think her story can inspire anyone who is truly determined to lose weight. I know I can now choose the right foods to increase my fat burning potential and have nutritionally dense meals.
