Rhyme Devereux is a pseudonym of an American adult romance writer. She enjoys making up characters and worlds that focus on the contemporary and erotic romance subgenres.
Her upcoming books will be more on the psychological-thriller type romances; that messes with your mind and heart. Unlike her past erotic romances, these stories will have a dose of darkness. You will be totally disturbed and turned on all at the same time.

RATING CLARIFICATION : 3.5 Stars
This is probably going to be a pretty short review, just because this book was only 36 pages. That really doesn't allow me to talk to much about it. I enjoyed this quick and sexy read. I just wish there would've been more to it. Because of the length it kind of made it hard to connect with the story and characters. This is definitely a book that if you are looking to pass the time with a sweet and sexy love story, you'll want to pick up. I am glad I was given the opportunity to read and review this book. I am also looking forward to other books by this author.
This book is kind of a second chance love story because Jax and Ivy knew each other when they were younger. We don't learn a whole lot about them in the past, but we do find out the Ivy had a not so happy upbringing, which in turn has made her build walls around herself and her heart. She doesn't want to end up like her mom. I really wish we would've gotten a little more background into her upbringing. As the story went on we are left with some holes and questions. Ivy is a 'Companion' for VIP which is owned by her bff Violet. This is where she is reunited with Jax. He has hired a companion for some business dinners. From there the story is about Jax and Ivy expressing their feelings for each other and about relationships in general. I don't want to say much more because it would give everything away. What we see of both Jax and Ivy, I think they are great characters....I just wish we would've gotten more of them and what they are like...I guess more character development. Being that this is a really short novella, there aren't really any secondary characters except Violet. We don't see much of her in this book, but from what we do see, she is loyal friend to Ivy and is willing to tell her like it is and to get Ivy out of her own head.
The one main thing about a book of this length is that everything seems so rushed. That would have to be my biggest complaint about this book. This story had so much potential to be turned into a slightly longer novella. With that said though....this was an enjoyable light and sexy read without any real drama!!!!
This was a super easy, good read. I read this book in less than an hour and it brought a big smile to my face!
Ivy is a VIP Companion. She is fiery red hair and a striking beauty. Her job is to accompany clients anywhere they need a beautiful woman on their arm. Gala events, fundraiser dinners, charity projects, etc. When she meets her newest client, it is no other than Jax Sterling, and old childhood friend. (face palm) Jax is just as handsome as he was as a teen.
Unfortunately for Jax, Ivy has her guard up. Past set aside, Ivy is scared of her feelings and what the future could hold for the two of them. There is sexual tension to the tenth power in this little jewel.
The writing of this story was fabulous. As a debut novel, I truly enjoyed this piece of work and hope I get the honor to read something else by this author. At 36 pages long, I simply wanted more. I wanted more back story and more details and a lot more of their back ground together. Because of these points, I had to give this story 3.5 stars.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a short story to brighten their afternoon :)
Synopsis: Welcome to VIP, a personalized matchmaking agency catering to professional executives. Satisfaction, and so much more, guaranteed.
Ivy Montgomery: Working as a VIP Companion, Ivy gets to see the world, accompanying businessmen on social events and business trips. She refrains from all lures of forming romantic relationships, especially with her clients. As far as Ivy’s concerned, falling in love weakens you. Now her newest client is Jax, a childhood friend. He was the one who kept her safe through a rough time in her life. His seductive charm and soothing caresses are difficult to ignore. Those piercing blue eyes captivate her. Her wildest fantasies about him have her suffocating with an intense need descending from her supple skin and lips, straight to her core. He arouses her, in every way. It might be time for her to make an exception to her rule...
Jax Sterling: As President of his family business; Sterling Vacation Resorts, Jax gives orders to everyone. No questions asked. He spends most of his time and energy on work, leaving no room for dating. In need of a companion, Jax decides to contact VIP. Sparks fly when he sees Ivy. He hadn't expected to meet up with this feisty redheaded woman, whom he had known a long time ago. However, she isn't that fragile, young girl with low self esteem he once protected. Her beautiful face and sensual curves are breathtaking to him now. Jax will stop at nothing ‘til he has her moaning in his bed.
Will Ivy let her guard down and revel in the pleasures of a man for the first time? He might be off-limits, but Jax will shatter all her inhibitions. At Your Mercy, will excite you and your palate will crave seduction.
Warning: This short sexy story is intended for mature audiences.
A quick (36 pages, 1 hour) listen, this is a short story that focuses on the women who work as escorts for VIP, a personalized ‘matchmaking’ service. This is Ivy’s story: a young woman with a huge issue with commitment and no room for love. Ivy is self-obsessed and over-reaching in her personal charms. Obsessed with her look, her clothes and the labels they bear, she’s not a particularly convincing ‘companion’ for public outings, especially as the organization that she works for is meant to provide companions for the more sophisticated businessmen, accompanying them to business functions.
Jax is her ‘client’ and the two know each other from childhood. I didn’t find or sense a solid emotional component to their reunion: while their conversation hinted toward an emotional connection, it was completely missing from the delivery of the narration or the words. While the sexual component was reasonably well designed, the odd asides from Ivy’s point of view kept her involvement removed and separate, I didn’t find it steamy, merely uncomfortable and formulaic.
This is, again, a short story: where development and growth of story and character is often limited with time/word count restrictions, but the initial development of the characters was only half-complete, and left me wanting more that gave a sense of reality.
Narration is provided by Elizabeth Meadows, and I will say that I was very disappointed with both her delivery and her diction. Multiple mispronounced words: Italian is not eyetalean, breasts do not feels tight, chiffon is not chifin and the receptionist is not ‘all women’ but all woman. These, combined with the flat, near monotone delivery with little regard or variation in pacing except to speed up for conversations did not present me with an enjoyable listen, and I would not be inclined to choose another audio title with her as narrator.
I had hoped for a short and steamy listen, but sadly I received the short and feel that the steamy was missing. Too many odd hesitations and asides, a curious mix of retro word choice, more suited to 1970’s bodice rippers were peppered throughout the scenes, and action skipped illogically, with the final climax being Ivy’s realization that she was in love. Really? I don’t believe it, and think that while the premise for the VIP series is clever, it missed on too many levels for me to continue.
I received an AudioBook download of the title via AudioBook Jukebox. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Ivory "Ivy" Montgomery is companion for VIP. Ivy hopes that this companion relationship works out like her last one did. Jaxsom "Jax" Sterling never expected to find Ivory. They knew each other in the past but can the past make up for the present? Ivy's childhood was terrible yet she keeps searching for her one true love. Will Ivy allow the past to control her future? Can Jax break thru Ivy's walls? Your answers await you in At Your Mercy.
This steamy short gets the blood revved up. I'll admit Ivy's childhood could come off cliche but that doesn't stop it from being completely special. Jax is really sweet guy who wants to sweep Ivy off her feet. This new to me author did a great job with this story.
