This was concise, understandable and most importantly honest assessment of self-publishing and also of the publishing industry. I highly recommend that it be read before bumbling stumbling, rumbling into a what can be an embarrassing nightmare. Wish I had read it ten years ago. Superior pieice of work!

A step-by-step guide to best practices in self-publishing, explaining clearly the pros and cons of the choices that you have at each step. This approach requires some significant investment by the (self)publisher, and would likely result in a high-quality product. Wondering whether to buy your own ISBN or take a free one from your publish-on-demand service? This book is for you. Wondering whether to hire an editor and a proofreader? This book is for you. Need ideas for marketing your book to get it to the widest possible audience. This book is for you.

This book saved me time, money and worry about whether i was doing things right. I followed the author's step by step guide and voila! i was done in an amazingly short time. It surprised me how quick and easy it was when someone was telling me what to do, step by step. I've been ready to publish my book for months, but couldn't muster the interest to figure out how. This book did that for me. Worth every penny

This guide is succinct, direct and spot-on. No fluff, no empty promises - this is the real deal. What are the steps to self-publish quality and how much will it cost?

Having recently gone a similar route with a partner, "self-publishing" through an independent publishing arm of our writing group, I would say the advice Ms. Ciotta doles out and her projected budget are quite accurate. I was fortunate to have an editing partner who handled the business side of publishing, while I focused on the content editing side of things, but the No Bullsh*t Guide to Self-Publishing matches the advice that she spent months researching. Full of useful tidbits about copyright, obtaining an ISBN, the best areas to outsource, why every writer needs an editor - or at the very least a proofreader - and an intro to marketing.

I very much look forward to the No Bulls**t Guide to Marketing and Sales whenever it is released.

Agree with another reviewer who said that this guide is worth much more than its current price. It's small, but mighty - and it will save those interested in self-publishing a ton of time (if they are researchers) and a ton of heartache if they are not!

I read this ebook NO BULLSH**T GUIDE TO SELF-PUBLISHING after seeing an article about Jennifer Ciotta in POETS AND WRITERS. The fact that her photo in that magazine reminded me of two actresses Jennifer Connelly and Jennifer Lawrence (at least until the latter bleached her hair after appearing in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK) didn't deter me from looking up her ebook and downloading it to my Kindle.

It is a quick read, but it doesn't have to be anything else. She gets to the point and stays there, making her points with brutal honesty and humor. She is an author like the rest of us struggling to be read (in my case, to be read as a fiction author and not just as a non-fiction scholar publishing my dissertation as a book). She knows what rejection feels like, and she wants to share her mistakes with us so that we can benefit. The end of her ebook not only provides her email address but her address on Goodreads. If you encounter her on this site, you will find her to be as warm and helpful as her photo is lovely. She wants to help the rest of us who have suffered from agent rejections -- turn downs that happen to be merely based on the agents own personal tastes.

The price is rock bottom, because her purpose is not to become wealthy from a short ebook but to encourage other writers to read and learn. She doesn't ask that you agree with every statement she makes; she gives you the option of thinking for yourself -- but leaves you with an informed option. Reading her makes me wish I had read her before many of my own experiences.
