The Dragon Warrior and the Princess

Rate this book
He’s a volatile, genetically-engineered slave, longing for peace. She’s a spoiled princess who wants to reclaim the throne and save the world. He must help her.

Princess Aurelia is left for dead on the frozen planet of Quisquiliae. There she meets a dragon warrior…the last of his kind. The Dragon Warrior, who had also been left for dead, thought war and servitude were behind him. But his short-lived peace is shattered when the fiery young woman revives and starts telling him what to do. He submits himself to her, as is his duty as a slave to the royal family but, deep down, he blames her for everything he is and all he has been forced to commit. After the Dragon Warrior saves Aurelia’s life, the princess is duty-bound to return the favor. Her course of action shocks the Dragon Warrior as he tries to come to terms with his true nature and identity.

The Dragon Warrior and the princess walk the path of honor together but it will take a confrontation with space pirates, a supply run for weapons, a star ship battle, a ground skirmish, a rescue mission and, ultimately, an encounter with evil itself before they find out where this journey will end.

An edge-of-your-seat science fiction adventure filled with innocent, romantic longing, The Dragon Warrior and the Princess breaks from the typical military space opera mold. Shaped by the theme of mercy verses justice, where shades of grey polarize and resolve into right and wrong, The Dragon Warrior and the Princess displays the power of good working through its heroes to give the world hope and a future.

Princess Aurelia's father is murdered and her body is unceremoniously disposed of in a trash compactor, dumped on a frozen waste planet and is rescued by the last Layaz Warrior - a dragon warrior servant caste that served her royal family. With his help, Aurelia will take back her planet.

This novel does all the stuff I don't normally care for but I rather enjoyed it. It seems to be that the main villain wasn't particularly careful in disposing of the princess, or using her as a final sacrifice for his victory, but we don't get to spend much time with him or his followers, the drama is between the princess, her dragon-warrior Sebastian, and her allies who dislike him but want her back on the interplanetary throne to dispose of someone far worse than her father. Aurelia is nursed back to health by someone who is innately subservient to her due to their rigid caste system, and she uses him to get what she wants, but to be honest she comes across as spoiled and naive, and at the same time knowing something is wrong with what's going on in their system, but also seemingly being clueless as to try to stop it.

My brief criticism is that the novel seems like it ought to be longer because it's a space opera, and while there was drama between the two leads, I would have liked more with the other characters and gotten to know the caste system. I liked that people were conflicted within the caste system, hating it but unable to give up their own prejudices against the Layaz Warrior Sebastian. Sebastian struggles with the innate desire to serve the princess in the proper way as well as his own nature - the story hints towards violence, but it doesn't stay there long. People are ritually murdered by the Usurper King and his religion, and Sebastian transforms but doesn't remember his actions as a dragon, so we don't really get to see much action.

In general, I think this was an enjoyable read if you want a character driven story and are new to science fiction with some fantastical themes to it.

I reread this book, with the new cover and like it a lot.
Christian scifi Dragon Warrior and the Princess is a wonderful tale. This is the second review I’ve written. I have no excuse for the first one. It came early in my reviewing effort, before I realized how bad most Christian fiction is. Now I realize that this story has much more spiritual content than most.

The main characters are complex and believable. The social interactions were very satisfying to me, but then I’m virtually a complete asocial clod. Nevertheless, the relationships seemed real, though peripheral people were too quickly covered occasionally.

This is definitely not hard science, yet it’s believable. Overall, the story flowed well. Obviously, I enjoyed it a lot. It was much better the second time.

Christian scifi Dragon Warrior / Princess deserves more
I wish I could give Celesta a redemptive fiction award, but I can not because the redeeming Messiah concept is not covered at all. Yes, God talks with His people, prayer works, and a mysterious man appears and disappears. It’s definitely a step up from religious Christianity. Believers will enjoy it. Heathens won’t be offended.

This is pretty much a fantasy universe, so that can explain a lot of it. There is no direct tie with the one in which we live. There be dragons.

I can certainly recommend this book. You’ll like it.

Dragon Warrior and Princess is a romantic fantasy that takes place in a distant future full of wonder and danger. Aurelia is a Princess in a very difficult situation. In fact, when Dragon Warrior and Princess opens she has been left for dead in a garbage ship and taken to Quisquiliae, a frozen planet used as a garbage dump. So much for an ecologically sound future. There she meets Layaz Warrior. Now, this guy is interesting. He has been created through genetic engineering to be a perfect warrior and serve the royal line so of course, he is above average in physical beauty and physical prowess. They can also change into dragons if their human perfection can’t overcome a problem. The dragon side can handle just about anything. With her father dead and his political rival Paiden in firm control of everything, Aurelia finds herself with one soldier, albeit a very good one, to help her defeat Paiden and win her rightful crown.

The charm of Dragon Warrior and Princess is not the do or die struggle for power but the relationship between Dragon Warrior and Princess. They are alike in one crucial thing that unfortunately causes friction between them more than it brings them together. Having both been raised in isolated controlled environments with limited types of social interaction they have to work out every tiny aspect of their interaction. This is a very useful device for shining the spotlight on their inevitable romance. I enjoyed watching and wondering if anything substantial would happen and I guess that is the essence of a Romance novel.

This is an odd mix of genres - sci-fi meets dragon fantasy and medieval.

He is a dragon warrior, a man who becomes a dragon when anger overcomes him. When he is a dragon he has no idea what that part of his being is doing. He is the last of his kind, send to a freezing garbage planet to die.

She is a princess, sent to the same planet in a garbage scow. She was supposed to die on the scow, but the scow doesn't work and she is unceremoniously dropped onto the planet where the dragon warrior finds her and saves her life.

She is determined to get her kingdom back and wearing the signet ring saved from her dead father's hand, she and the warrior find a way to return, build an army and take back her land.

This is a good versus evil, light versus darkness story.

Overall I enjoyed the story. The writing wasn't polished and there were some editing problems, but it flowed nicely and about 1/3 of the way through I got into it, thus four stars not five. I will probably read this author again!

This was a clean read.

What a beautiful love story! A most beautifully written relationship between two people, who by no means were supposed to be together. Aurelia is a princess, whose royal family has been overthrown by a blood thirsty Black Dragon worshiper, who started practicing human sacrifices on her planet; Sebastian is a genetically engineered warrior, whose only purpose is to serve and protect the royal family, but now he’s the only one left of his kind. So will he be able to overstep the memories of how he used to be treated and submit himself once again to the service of the young princess? With time he realizes that it’s not only the code of honor he follows, but something more…
“The Dragon Warrior and the Princess” is not your usual science fiction; the eternal themes of good conquering the evil, of honor and betrayal are still there, but they are softened by the tones of a new romance, of the most genuine feelings between the people, who shouldn’t by no means experience them. Wonderfully written, kind, romantic and yet a fast paced story with characters you get so emotionally attached to that you just don’t want the book to end. Five stars!

This is something new and refreshing in the annals of shapeshifting. The Dragon Warrior, who once was called Sebastian before he became a warrior slave, is conditioned to obey the royal family so when he finds his princess on a frozen garbage planet, he has to help her, even though it means he must be a slave again. He must enable her to return to her world to fight those who overthrew the monarchy even though Princess Aurelia's father was the one who ordered the destruction of his race.

Aurelia, narrowly escaping death, is now dependent on someone she previously considered not more than an animal. Gradually, she begins to see the man and his goodness. This is a delicate love story set over the course of the time it takes to get together an assault force to liberate Aurelia's world. There is no guarantee either of them will survive and a lot to stand between them. How can a Dragon Warrior, a slave, and a Princess be in love and does it last? Can they overcome overwhelming odds to defeat the usurper and his cohorts? Read this exciting book to find out.

His name used to be Sebastian, when he had a happy home and family. Now, this genetically-modified warrior with an unbelievable flashpoint finds a sort of contentment on an ice world garbage dump. But when the princess who deserves only his vengeance shows up in the same place, his heart won't let him ignore her need for his service. Destiny is more than a vague concept as these two people are thrown together and pulled apart over and over. There is providence behind the pain. It's a fantasy with a soul, and God is in the thoughts of these people. The language is a little more modern and ordinary than I could wish for fantasy, but it's a great story.

I received this book for free from the author for an honest review.

The Dragon Warrior and the Princess is pretty much summed up in the title. The book follows a princess as she plans to reclaim her throne from an evil rebel. She befriends a warrior that is the last of his kind. The book is a fantasy in a futuristic sci-fi world.

The reason I am giving this book four stars is because of the very last line of the book. I do not think the relationship between the two characters developed as much as the author would have liked it to have progressed, and I found the last line to be crude and uncalled for.

Overall, an ok book.

I really enjoyed The Dragon Warrior and the Princess. This fantasy read, I would recommend to older teens and adults. It is a fun and interesting book. I think you, also, will enjoy this book if you enjoy fantasy novels.
I want to give this book a 4.5 star rating but not sure how to do that so, its getting 5 stars cause 4 is not enough!
I look forward to reading more books by this author as this is the first I had heard of Celesta Thiessen‏.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I kept reading it while I was suppose to be working. I love the interaction between the princess and the dragon warrior. I especially like the story line. It may have been geared toward a younger audience but I couldn't put it down. It was the first book I read from this author which now makes me a fan.

Nice introduction to a complex world

The author has introduced us to a complex world full of castes and dragons, mercy and justice, intrigue and romance, all with an undercurrent of faith and good-hearted protagonist. I hope to read more from this world soon, as this made for a lovely relaxing afternoon.

I really liked the creativity of this story - and think anyone who likes Star Trek & Star Wars would like this too. I particularly liked the main male character but I did struggle with some POV/character references with respect to him so I'd probably give this book about 3.5 stars but happier to round up than down.

Since I can't give a 4.75 here, I chose 5. The only reason I would have gone for the 4.75 is one tiny little question that I didn't get answered to my satisfaction. But this is a great story, with an excellent premise and well executed. This is a great book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were well done and as in life, often ambiguous. The ending was totally satisfying. Good job.

As a long time sci-fi lover I enjoyed this read. It had all the elements of good sci-fi with a mixture of fantasy (the shapeshifting dragon warrior). The romance was sweet and satisfying; the faith element was well played - not overt, in my opinion, but still an important part of the overall story. I think the author's writing style is geared to a YA audience, although others may enjoy it as well. Because the story takes place over a relatively long period of time there is quite a bit of 'telling', but it's probably necessary to move the story forward relative to the timeline.
