I've been researching our retirement home of the future and this book has a lot of history of the American home and it's progression from a one room home of 16 foot by 20 foot to a 2 story home with an ell with the kitchen off the back door... lots of ideas but I'm not sure if at my age I want a log home or a timber-frame home with a bit more space.
