The novel The Twice Dead includes the previously published novel: Waking The Zed.
Pam Stone is a pathology graduate student with a great work ethic and a lot of bills. But even though she is paid very well for a summer internship at Future Faith Cryonics, she regrets accepting a job "baby sitting" frozen bodies and seeing creepy and condescending Dr. Klein every day. When Dr. Klein actually attempts to revive the frozen corpses, Pam wonders if she will even live to regret her mistake.
Enter hard-bitten combat veteran Captain Crawford, friendly Corporal Gordon, and Hercules - an obese deli owner and the grandson of a witch. Can they help Pam find the answers to the cure for the zombie apocalypse before it spreads too far?
ML Katz decided to include an expanded version of the novella - Waking the Zed - in from of this to make the novel The Twice Dead, and I think it's a good idea for people who haven't read the novella. If you have read the novella, this includes some changes and a couple more chapters - so browse it again.
I think The Twice Dead has a great and original premise - the Zombie Apocalypse starts in a Cryonics company - where they freeze people in hope they can bring them back to life later. I also like the fact that Pam Stone is a realistic female protagonist and Dr. Klein is an antagonist we can all love to hate.
The Twice Dead also introduces us to Hercules - a fat Greek deli owner who had a witch for a grandmother. And yes, it all makes sense here but I don't want to write spoilers. So read it already.
