Jane's letter arrived three days later. At Pemberley, Darcy asked Elizabeth to be his wife, and she gladly accepted. Unfortunately, Darcy was unable to find Lydia, and due to his father's will, he could lose Georgiana's guardianship if he married Elizabeth. Darcy asked Elizabeth to postpone the wedding, and Elizabeth decided to call off the engagement. This is a story about ambition, jealousy, betrayal, family, duty, and love.
New version 10-Nov-2023, grammar corrections and editing.
In this Pride and Prejudice variation, after her visit to Pemberley Elizabeth is engaged, but when Lydia elopes and is not discovered Darcy ends the engagement. Later Mary marrys the Netherfield steward. Then I gave up.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars for originality. The Fitzwilliams have shadow businesses of slavery and running illegal goods to and from France. This doesn’t come up much but it’s a marker to how they interact with the rest of humanity. Then Lady Catherine catches wind Darcy might marry Lizzy…well things don’t go well.
Some of the plotting didn’t make much sense. The writing needed a good editor. Once or twice adjacent paragraphs were at odds with each other.
There is finally a HEA. Lizzy and Darcy earned this one.
If you like anguish books (I enjoyed this book), you will be happy with this one. Do you like emotional and drama? ( I found it and liked it) Do you like the "enemy" getting theirs? (I know I do) Do you like an interesting yet very intriguing storyline? (I know I do). This has a happy ending which is surprisingly awesome how it all comes together. Darcy and Elizabeth take years to come together because of other people pushing their agenda. Bad things happen, but this author has a fascinating imagination on how to handle it.
The plot was engaging enough to finish the book, but the execution was horrendous! Spelling was not thought about. The only reason I finished it was because it was short and interesting. It was also very annoying!!! I like well edited books...this one is NOT!
The story begins after Lydia Bennet elopes with Mr. Wickham. As time goes by and as there is no news of the couple, many lives change, the destinies of the beloved characters change, some for the better, others not so much. “Tears & Forgiveness” by Lorena DiChiara shows us how one decision can affect the lives of all the beloved characters of the book “Pride & Prejudice”. New characters are introduced, sometimes happy, and sometimes sad events follow as time goes by. What I liked best, is the introduction of new characters; their complex personalities with both virtues and faults make the reading very entertaining. On the other side, I think Lorena DiChiara, the author, allows the reader to visit the wicker side, so we do not forget that the characters are human too. The novel might not be idyllic, but it is full of human nature, and it does justice to its title. For these reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to fans of the period romance genre, and fans of Jane Austen.
I have enjoyed Lorena DiChiara’s books. However this has been my favorite so far. The angst is reasonable and realistic. I like the story arcs if the supporting. Characters. It was a well rounded and developed storyline.
This story is in sore need of a good editing. I marked just a couple of errata. However, the greatest need is that of speaking in a more adult tone/cant. The writing, IMHO, is just too juvenile.
Darcy is forced to ask Elizabeth to hold off on their engagement as Richard Fitzwilliam, Georgiana's other guardian, threatens to gain sole guardianship to be awarded to him as the Bennets are now a family in disgrace due to Lydia's elopement with Wickham and then disappearing.
There are many little twists. Pemberley loses a wing and three servants die when an arsonist strikes. Anne de Bourgh is determined to marry, even if it is a marriage of convenience, in order to wrest control of Rosings from her mother. Lady Catherine has a significant role. She, like Wickham, earns well deserved fates. Lord Matlock is desperate for an heir, even a nephew will do. However, his oldest has contracted the "French Disease" and Richard has resisted his father's efforts between being sent to the continent for the war and not finding a woman who suits his tastes.
There is a big surprise which I dare not mention as it would SPOIL the story. But applauds for how the author handled that.
The "chapters" jump back and forth between Darcy's life and Elizabeth's. We do hear of the various members of the Bennet family and also the Bingleys. Although I must warn you the latter family does not read as in canon. There are some new characters, also. One is a man who befriends Elizabeth and sees...Well, you'll just have to read that for yourself.
I found this book to be really creative with what might have happened if Lydia was not found and the outcome. The series of events and what happens to Elizabeth and Darcy although sad to be parted actually gives them time to discover their strengths. I was a bit shocked at the Fitzwilliam family, but that just made it that much more interesting. I enjoy stories by authors who take the risk and publish them. Those of us who love Jaff understand and love to read all the stories. I look forward to reading more by this author.
