Stark's background as a poet shines through this beautifully written novel. He loves and understands the Minnesota outdoors and it shows in his writing. I think this novel could be classified as a coming of age work as it recounts the life of a teenager in the mid sixties in rural Minnesota. It is a nice relaxing read.
