A once blissful day in an Uber with a beautiful driver turned into utter chaos for Lyfe Miller.
Ocean was the driver’s name, and it fit her perfectly. Just looking at her, he knew that her beauty was endlessly deep and behind the allure in her eyes was violent turbulence. She was beyond her curves, chocolate skin, and artistic features. Despite her youth, life had dealt her a bad hand. She had the eyes of a fighter—determined and unafraid. Her pain was evident in the creases of her brow and the natural pout of her full lips. Her amazing eyes revealed a broken soul, fighting to put itself back together.
Their chemistry was instant and an explosive inferno. Their kiss was flooded with authentic animalistic passion. It tasted like they were meant to be. He could taste the sweetness of her soul and the bitterness of her past.
But some wounds never truly heal and bleed again at the most inopportune moments. Will the wounds of Ocean and Lyfe’s pasts cause their explosive chemistry to fizzle before their opportunity to live happily ever after?
* This standalone was previously released exclusively on the author's website as Rideshare Love, but will now be released on Amazon. Though the characters and storyline remain the same, it has been revised and improved with added scenes.

My writing evolved from apple trees to my seventh and eighth grade classmates paying me to read novels I had written about kids our age living the lives our parents wouldn’t dare let us”. At the age of twenty-eight, Watkins’ chronicles have matured into steamy, humorous, and realistic tales of women's literature. Listen!!!! Jessica needs to start pitching these stories to HBO or somebody because she never fails to take you on the ride of your life!!! I’ve come to expect the unexpected with her!
Ocean LIVED a life in her 27 years!! Sis went through it and she navigated through each day with extreme caution due to her past creating a fragile lifestyle for her. She would have never guess that working with a ride share company to keep her days as busy as possible would lead her on the ride of her life while finding love in the process!
Lyfe was doing the best he could while caring for his 17 year old autistic brother. After losing his mother, he became the sole guardian of Landon and there was nothing he wouldn’t do to ensure that all of Landon’s needs and want were met. This meant putting his dreams on hold and dabbling in fast money! After hopping in Ocean’s car, his life would never be the same!
This was a rollercoaster of drama, suspense and OMG moments! Irv got what he deserved and Ivory should’ve listened to Ocean instead of being a dck rider. She suffered an unfortunate fate as a result. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment between Ocean and Lyfe and the bond they built! The love was deep and journey was definitely worth it in the end!
All it took was one Uber ride to change everything. Ocean does ride share so she can escape the loneliest she feels. One night she meets Lyfe and an instant connection is felt. During this crazy night a huge secret is revealed that changes both Lyfe and Oceans life forever. Ivory got exactly what her trifling ass deserved. Irv bxtchass got what he deserved too but I low key wanted him and his side 6 feet under. Oceans father could have joined Ivory too with his bxtchass. I loved Ocean and Lyfe getting their HEA. Landon’s growth was beautiful as well.
jessica is definitely climbing up the list of being one of my favs! this book was different but it definitely delivered all the feels.
through an unideal introduction, lyfe and ocean became inseparable and a match made in heaven. lyfe gave BDE the entire book.. so respectful, protective, and assertive. a MAN honey. i loved how he was so willing and able to love lyfe through everything she witnessed. a true gem.
ocean.. girl. we went through a lot together in these pages but by the grace of God.. you made it. fighting the abandonment and neglect of your parents, addiction, and irv's aint shit ass.. you got your happily ever after that was so deserving.
This book ranks up as one of the best books I've read so far in 2023! It was a perfect story in my opinion. I got a chance to get to know both main characters so I was able to become invested in their story. I absolutely loved how they met. Their chemistry was tangible. Their friendship was organic. Even during the lows of the story, I was so triggered that I wanted to stop reading. The willpower in Ocean was inspiring. Her strength was literally something to write about in books. I loved Lyfe for her. This story was such a beautifully told story with the perfect ending, I couldn't ask for anything more. So well written. Definitely highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this novel. Ocean is a young woman in a lonely marriage. To pass time she does Uber and one day she picks up this passenger that she instantly has chemistry went. As their Uber ride continued- I was thinking “oh these two have some cute chemistry going on” but then things quickly change. What started as a great day of undeniable chemistry ended up being one that would change Ocean and Lyfe’s life.
Lyfe recognized Ocean’s sadness almost immediately. He also accepted her fully even though she had a very troubled past. I love how he treated Ocean and how affirmed her. Lyfe also had some things going on. When his mom died, he became the caregiver for his Autistic brother Landon. He made dangerous sacrifices to ensure he was able to provide the care that Landon needed. He was such a selfless character and I loved how his life changed beautifully in the end 🖤 he deserved it!
I was not expecting this read to unfold the way it did. I could sense that Miss Ocean had a bit of edge to her, while holding onto immense sadness. She was lonely, feeling abandoned and unworthy. Then to learn of all that she had gone through with her parents, broke my heart! 💔 She needed to stay busy to keep her mind and heart away from the trauma she endured, to ensure her continued healing. A random pickup with a rider named Lyfe, changed everything for Ocean! Lyfe ordered his Uber to take care of business, and it turned into his forever. He was attracted to Ocean upon first glance. After long conversations and the eventful day, they shared they were locked in! Although they both had demons, insecurities and fear to deal with, I loved how they fought through their struggles to find happiness. Especially dealing with Landon. It was sweet how he eventually warmed to Ocean, and it meant the world to her. This read tackled some pretty heavy issues, however, it was done tastefully. Good job! 👍👍👍
What a way to meet the love of your life. This story was very interesting to say the least. Like omg! They way Ocean and Lyfe’s random meeting turned into Ocean getting the biggest reveal of her life. I think I love this story even more because it was based in my city and I love reading books with familiar streets and places. But low key the way they met was definitely a Chicago vibe. We surely be going on all day missions/dates and that be the first date or hangout and it be the most fun you will ever have had in your life. Which was definitely the same vibe Ocean and Lyfe had that day. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be continuing to add her books to my TBR list. I’m giving this a 4.5 stars
Cute cute cute… Lyfe and Ocean met in the most unexpected way but connected instantly. Lo love how Lyfe took great care of his brother and so did Ocean. Everyone got what they deserved… Irv and Ivory 🙄
4.5 stars. I loved the way these two met. She was his Uber driver. She, a recovering drug addict and former prostitute, falls for a dope boy with an Autistic brother/son and a talent for art.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster. Sometimes I hated it and sometimes I hated that I was enjoying it. I hated that it took her so long to get her happy ending. Whenever things were looking up, there was destruction at every single turn. Sis could not catch a break. Anyway overall it was a decent read.
Author, if you're seeing this please explain how her "love button knocked"
This was a good read! Ocean really went through as a child and adult, my heart was crying for her. Meeting Lyfe was the best thing for the both of them! I could literally feel their chemistry through the pages. That darn Ivory annoyed me so bad, I don't understand how they were friends to begin with! Karma came with a vengeance for her and Irv! 🤷🏿♀️🤷🏿♀️ This story was pretty heavy and with as much trauma that I had to read I was disappointed that the really beautiful sweet moments were just briefly mentioned in the epilogue!! I wanted to experience their ups just as much as their downs ( and there were LOTS of downs) still a good read
Lyfe left me speechless. I could have never thought of nor created a more perfect character. I love when an author can make u lust after their male characters. But this was a good read. I couldn’t put this book down. I like that ocean was always conscious of her sobriety even after everything that happened. She was always honest with herself of the work she had to do. Irv and ivory blew me! The hell you need enemies for when you interact with devils on a daily basis.
I loved this story, Ocean is a recovering drug addict, she thought she met the man of her dreams Irvin, but he turned out to be a Real Disappointment. Meanwhile while Ocean decides to get a job driving for Rideshare , she pick up a interesting gentlemen Lyfe Winters
Lyfe Winters is trying to do right by taking on the responsibility of raising his little brother that has autism after the death of their mother, lyfe is on a mission to make sure his brother gets the care that he needs even if it means selling drugs.
What a beautiful and unique love story between Ocean and Lyfe. Both characters have been through so much and yet overcame so many barriers. This love story covered so many deep areas and complex topics including trauma, grief, addiction, and caring for sibling with autism.
This was an excellent book but with a lot of triggers that was not warned. ****Spoiler alert**** If you are like me where certain topics are not for you, we’ll this books has several of them: from child neglect to child endangerment to child prostitution to drug used to addicts to recovering addicts to relapsing etccc…. That was the biggest issue and take of the book and had I know that the heroine was all that, I might have not taken this book…. That said, I took it, started reading it, took several days for me to finish it since I was reading and taking a breather or skipping parts but to realized that at the end nothing happened, I must say that it was a beautiful story of redemption, finding true love and being actually very strong to not fall down this rabbit hole. Ocean was strong, a little bit flat and naive but strong and Lyfe was so bae. A beautiful couple with a man pouring everything he had in the woman that he choose to support is so beautiful. Good that Ivory, Irvin, Johnny, and Bridget go what they deserved. I just hoped the dad was part of this visit from karma. In any case, reading a MS. Watkins book is the truest, most knowledgeable and relatable story you will always be reading. That’s that type of penmanship you sign up for. Grab yours!!!?
Star level: 4.5 Spice level: 🌶️🌶️Tropes: strangers to lovers, a little cheating and lots of drama and trauma Check trigger warnings before reading. This is my first story by this author and I wasn’t disappointed at all I don’t know why I put this book off for so long (I’m blaming nursing school) Oceans and Lyfe love story is very unique and it’s not because of their names. Who knew taking a second job as a Uber driver could change your life over night. Ocean has had a very difficult life starting at a young age that didn’t seem to get any better until she met a man named Irv swept her off her feet and helped her get her life together. You would think they had the perfect life but nope they done (read to find out all the juice drama) just know Irv got what he deserved but he still needed more. I’m glad Ocean finally started to stand up for herself and actually LIVE instead of letting others walk over her and use her. Like that Ivory girl that was no “friend” and I knew it the moment she was introduced in the story. I just wish she would’ve listened to ocean instead of trying to be all boy crazy over someone that wants her for her body. Now lyfe story just like oceans was a little rough coming from Jamaica and being from a single parent home. His mother died early and he had to man up and before not only a man but only a father figure to his little brother. When he met Ocean we was just thinking of her body and giving her a good time he was a fling man never relationships. Since he always gave his time to his brother he put everything on pause including he’s dream and started hustling to make fast money to pay for therapy for his brother. Lyfe and Ocean brought out the bet in each other and ever though this story is slow pace it’s a beautiful story and seeing how they come and grow together. You can’t even deny from the beginning they were life a magnetic pulling to get close to each other. Now read this story before I give too much away.
Where don’t begin Ocean had been through some stuff stating with her parents addiction an the. For her father to do what he did I kind of understood wanting to forget for her it was about survival…now Lyfe was just lifing trying to make a way to survive and provide the therapy needed for his brother Landon’s progress but as they say what you won’t do the next person will and so their journey begins….Irv had me thinking he was an ok dude how he helped Ocean get better to be better but once his story came out he had issues almost like a gaslighting predator like everything was her fault and her friend Ivory the chips just fell where they did cause sista was not loyal…..this was a great first read for this author will be going through the rest of your catalog
It’s been a minute since I’ve read a book by this author. The cover and title is what drew me in. I loved how they met and that their chemistry was instantly felt. What was a little off were the people who we’re connected to Ocean. Irv did not fit the characteristics of a plug and Ivory just seemed a little slow. Ocean got on my nerves a bit with one minute being strong then the next weak but she eventually got it together. Life and Landon are what kept me interested and reading his devotion to his brother was so inspiring and the way Jessica perfected Landon’s autism and characteristics was spot on. I’m glad I read it and would definitely recommend if you enjoy love stories with a twist.
This book was straight fire 🔥. Ocean went through so much in her life as a child and adult. She endured a boring marriage just to find out that her husband was living a double life and didn’t really want to be with her anymore. One Uber passenger changed her life and showed her what true love was. The relationship between Ocean and Lyfe was so refreshing. They truly loved each other. My favorite character was Landon. Jessica’s portrayal of him as an autistic young man was spot on. He was so smart and when he accepted Lyfe and Ocean’s relationship, it was quite emotional. This well written novel kept my attention from beginning to end. Well worth reading.
This book was so good from beginning to end. It’s got the perfect amounts of spice (3.5/5), plot, drama and trauma. The FMC is hood but submissive and the MMC is a beautiful head strong dominant drug dealing man with an autistic brother and a love for art. It’s their story and how they fell in love all the way to the very end. I will say the timeline is so unrealistic it feels like the things happened in a more stretched out period of time weeks maybe months and then the book says “a few days later”, I also wish that the trauma parts of the book was more detailed. The books is beautifully told I just think it lacks being able to paint the picture of the story clearly.
I honestly wasn’t sure about this but I stayed the course and I’m glad I did. Ocean had lived a hell of life full of trauma abandonment and addiction. I will say she got on my nerves sometimes one minute she’s strong and fighting for her sobriety and the next minute she’s ready to throw her life away. I’m just glad she got it together and came out on top.
Lyfe was everything. So admirable for the way he took on the sole responsibility for his brother. I loved how he loved Ocean flaws and all. The way the two of them met makes for a beautiful love story. I’m so happy they both got their HEA together 🫶🏾
This was a great story. The character development was spot on and the storyline kept me engaged. Ocean had been dealt a bad hand in life and with your parents, husband, and best friend all betraying you, who needs enemies. I wanted to hug her several times because the trauma was mounting. Lyfe was just what she needed despite the very unconventional way they met. He too, suffered major trauma, but had to cope while being his autistic brother’s guardian. I could feel his stress at times and how dependent Landon was on his brother. I loved how overtime Landon grew to love Ocean as much as his brother did.
Ocean and Lyfe!!!...What a beautiful beginning and ending!!!... Funny how sometimes the moat kindred would meet in the craziest of times!!!...I was so happy that Lyfe brother was found!!!...As much as I wanted reality n to set in for Ivory, I wasn't expecting not be death!!!... Crash that the very b person you fought for is the on e that killed her!!!..I was waiting for Irvine to be picked up because his arrogance was too much for himself!!!...I was glad to see how Eve evolved for Ocean and Life though!!!...
I enjoyed the book, and how Ocean met Lyfe. It just seem like it was alot of page fillers. Just when i thought it was going to pick up, boom same slow page turner. Also, so many un answered questions. What happen with Irv and Bridgette. They got arrested and nothing else was said. Then Ivory is not talked about anymore after the fight, until tradgety hits. Ive read other books by this author and they were some good reads, but this was not it for me. Glad it was standalone
My 2024 ended with a bang up story! I loved this from beginning to end. Jessica Watkins exercised her writing chops telling the story of Ocean and Lyfe.
When you touch on topics that hit close to home for some readers it’s definitely appreciated when you can tell when an author does some research before they put it in the book. Being on the Spectrum is wide spread. No two individuals are the same. Wonderful job.
This was a full length story and I wanted more chapters lol!!
I did the audio version. I have no complaints with the narrators.
Ocean went through so much and for her husband to do what he did when he couldn't fix her anymore. Lure came in right on time and when she needed him they just did elbow that a day of uber driving would change their entire life, loved this story because it touch on some of the obstacles that occurs when working/raising a child with autism , so happy everything worked out and karma hit all those it needed to.
LYFE and OCEAN! I really enjoyed this read! That Uber ride was more than either of them could wish for. I lowkey need an UBER ride with the right driver, lol!!! Lyfe was such a sweetheart. I loved him from the door. Ocean was a sweetie as well, but she had A LOT of healing to do. I didn't like the way she ran away from Lyfe, but I later understood it. She could be good for him or in their relationship until she was good for herself. LOVED IT!!
I liked it. And this author is def 1-click status. Probably only one of a few that I will read on release day even if it is an unfinished series. Wtbs... this wasn't one of my favorites. It was a little bit slower than a lot of the others I've read from her and while the drama was deep, it wasn't all crazy or anything lol. I did find myself skipping through some parts but again that's bc it's not what I am used to reading from her.
This was one terrific journey, with characters that were not only believable but just real. The writer takes us into the lives of two people who are not searching for their soulmate but stumbles onto that very person. The story takes us through some twist and turns ,just like life and you find that you want them to win. Not wanting to give slot away, you are going to have to read it!
Oooh I loved this book and wish I would have read it sooner! First I love the social disorder representation and family dynamics of addicts. No one can do a ghetto, swoon worthy love story like Ms. Jessica N Watkins! Lyfe gave me life! LOL. He was a true real man and I respect Ocean was always wanting better and staying truth to herself even with a few hiccups. And I am so proud of Landon. This will most definitely be a reread!💛💚💙🎨
