It's a very good basic book for anyone who wants to learn more about pragmatics and discourse. I myself am not reading the whole book, just the parts to do with politeness for my thesis, but it's really helpful.

I think the way the book is organized is a bit confusing. It would have been more informative if Cutting had used more non-British examples.
