I recommend this read, maybe not so much for the current production method when it goes heavily into depth on shooting film, taking it through post, but as a historical text to get a better idea of what it was to cut film and finish on film.

There are a lot of great production wisdom/budget information that is still valid today, even in the digital wonder of filmmaking of today. I see my post production work process as a huge blessing for me as an indie filmmaker myself. Technology has definitely leveled the playing field. This book helps me see that more then ever!

Read 4th edition. Good principles, covers everything you need to know in terms of line items and procedures - the numbers + sample budgets are wack, though
