This is a simple idea translated into a delightful picture book by the addition of die-cut illustrations by the paper artist Agnese Baruzzi.

The die-cut illustrations give the appearance of 3D silhouettes and the first one is a dog going up the stairs and coming down the stairs - up and down. A meerkat and a giraffe represent short and tall while a rhinoceros with a little bird on its back represent big and small.

High and low features a bird, at the top of the tree to begin with and then on the ground looking up. The domestic cat demonstrates near and far, in a basket in the living room in the foreground and rather like a cat on a hot tin roof in the background. The hare and the snail give us an idea of fast and slow while a rabbit is in the house and outside it for in and out.

It is a really lovely book and one to cherish in the collection.
