این کتاب بیشتر یه لیست خوبه تا یک کتاب تحلیلی، هرچند که مقاله‌ی آخرش که مربوط به سینمای صامت آمریکای لاتینه، مقاله‌ی خوبیه.

Nice collection of stills (as usual with these Studio Vista things)--but the commentary a trifle snobby.

The stills are nice and clear (sometimes) but the writing is sub-Wikipedia level

Mostly just a chronology of important movies and people with a little history at the beginning and a sprinkle of analysis. Would most likely be incredibly boring for someone who doesn’t like film history/silent films. I wish the author wouldn’t given us a bit more of his own analysis, and maybe found a better way to group the artists, countries, etc.

I stopped about halfway through, because I had plenty of material to work with. This book at best is good for exposure. It’s more of an encyclopedia of silent films, directors, and actors alongside mediocre commentary and pretty pictures.
