My Review:

As the Adventure Bible has really hit the mark for our children the author of the Adventure Bible has come up with many ways to supplement their Bible study, in a way that is very engaging. My boys were delighted that this book was offered as a way to learn more about the Bible stories that before they could only read about. The bottom line is to keep children tuned into the Bible and what it has to say to their precious hearts. I firmly believe that if they learn how to read and study the Bible while they are young that it will foster tat learning in them as adults.

Written in the same form as the Adventure Bible, the Adventure Bible Handbook takes the persons, places, and things learned about in the Adventure Bible and expands on and gives you further understanding. You can learn more about Babylon, the Garden of Eden, the Tower of Babel, and even the flood. With so many options to choose from the Adventure Bible Handbook covers many of the items and so much more. Follow Richards children as the try to find their missing father, Richard. You will learn so much more than you could of ever imagined.

"Adventure Bible Handbook" is a Bible overview combined with some comic book, time-travel action. It's a companion to the "Adventure Bible" by Zondervan, which I think is a real Bible with kid-friendly study inserts. Since this book is mostly a summary of the Bible, I'm not certain why it's needed if the child has a kid's study Bible as well. It seemed more like a book to use to get a child who doesn't know the Bible interested in reading the full stories in the Bible.

The comic book part is a story about some kids trying to find their father by, of all things, taking a time-traveling tour of the Holy Land. Lucky for them, he's time-traveling, too. The main focus, though, seems to be their seeing events from the Bible so they will decide to follow Christ at the end.

As they travel through events taken from each book of the Bible, the reader is given a summary of that event or book in text above the comic section. Some events are illustrated using comic-book style and others by using pictures of modern-day remains or of paintings previously done of the event. There are some maps, Bible facts, and cultural background information, but mainly it's a summary of the main events of the Bible.

Despite the theme of traveling through time, they generally didn't mention dates. I think this was smart idea because a lot of dates are under dispute. They treated Genesis as real history, and this is one area where they didn't mention dates.

I did notice some minor errors, like page 26, "In Old Testament Times, the oldest son inherited everything." (The firstborn sons inherited a double portion, but not everything.) The information also seemed a bit simplistic. I'd think that church kids in their tweens would already understand what sin is or could tackle what the Ten Commandments really are instead of a modified, modernized version for young kids. But if you're looking for a fast summary of the Bible "spiced up" with the addition of a comic book adventure, then this does the job well enough.

The book starts out with an archaeologist arriving at the airport to do research in the Holy Land for the summer. He is accompanied by his kids because he and his wife agreed it would be a good educational experience for them. But the next morning they realize he is missing and decide that the best way to find him is to go on a tour of the Holy Land they saw advertised the day before. Maybe he'll turn up at one of the archaeological sites. This part is a bit sketchy, but it's not that important other than to set up the story. Off they go, with a technologically advanced tour company on a journey that has them going between past and present in some of the settings of the major stories of the Bible.

The layout of the book is really cool, with the storyline in comic book style, alongside interesting facts, further explanation of the current story or recommended adventure readings for kids to read more about say, John the Baptist or the Teachings of Jesus, in their Bible.

This book is a fun, fantastic way to look a little deeper and learn new things about the Bible stories you hear in Sunday School. I love the picture of the Boeing 747 interposed on Noah's Ark to show just how massive it truly was. Do you know just how rich Solomon really was? The example given is astounding, even by todays standards! This book is wonderful because they are using creative, new ways to teach the truth from the Bible in a fun way. Your kids won't want to put the book down, and will be motivated to search further in their Bibles for themselves.

I received this book from Booksneeze and Zondervan for the purpose of an honest review. My opinion is my own.

Let’s face it: everyone learns differently. Some children are born readers. Others? Well, they may be more visually oriented.

If you have a 9 to 12 year old that prefers action to books – The Adventure Handbook – A Wild Ride Through The Bible by Robin Schmitt & David Frees was probably written with him or her in mind!

The Adventure Bible Handbook is a graphic novel about an archaeologist who disappears during an expedition in the Holy Land – and his four children who end up on a world wide search for their father!

Along the way, as they search for clue to their father’s whereabouts, they end up traveling back in time and experiencing biblical events firsthand and encounter many life-changing events and truths! In addition to the graphic storyline, there is a lot of useful reference material in this book.

As an adult, I found the font and colors extremely tiny and difficult to read – but the intended audience should have no trouble seeing it with their eagle-eyed vision!

An expedition to the Holy Land! It is an archeologists' dream, but when he disappears, his children set out to find him. Can they trust the guides in the tour they have joined? Will this unconventional tour lead them to their father?

The Bible is a wonderful book filled with adventure, love, war, and other interesting bits of history. The Adventure Bible Handbook takes children on a journey through the Bible with an archeologist, his assistant, and his four children. What appears to be a simple, thrilling journey to the Holy Land, becomes a race to find their missing father. As the children join a tour group, the guides take them places other than the ones to find their father. This journey, which is done by time travel, is to teach them about Bible events by actually experiencing those events for themselves. Their modes of transportation are unique to each event, and the children learn about the people, customs, and culture of the time they visit. The question is, why are they traveling around places their father isn't? Will they ever find their father? Children will enjoy learning about the Bible in this fun new book.

This Handbook is a lot of fun. It is written and illustrated to attract children of all ages, making the learning fun. I recommend it to families with children (ages 7 - 12 - although others would enjoy it as well) as an addition to your Bible library. The pictures and other illustrations are meant to draw children into the complete story.

Adventure Bible Handbook is a full-color comic strip type book for children. It begins with an archeologist gone missing in Israel. His four children take up with a couple of madcap tour guides who cover the entire Holy Land in hopes of finding Dad. Fun characters and the interesting storyline will keep kids engaged as they are learning of the unfolding stories, geography, and archeology of the Bible. Using fun modes of transportation, Really Smart Phones and time travel the authors, Robin Schmitt and David Frees, have written a winner for children and parents alike.
The book itself is hardbound, with semigloss pages filled with comic strips, maps and artwork images related to Biblical stories. Included at the end of the book are several indexes, Scripture, Subject, Image guide and a Reading guide to the Bible. All in all a wonderful book for the preteen to make Bible reading an adventure.
