i picked this book up from a book exchange in a train station last year. it enthralled me from the very first lines. since i finished it then, it became a nice decoration to my bedroom. i decided to pick it up again now, during quarantine, to give myself a sense of hope. peter spencer was a man struck with depression & hopelessness, who feared life becoming an endless spiral of pity and loss. he used his accident to improve his life, and many, if not all, of the things that happened to him since simply wouldn’t have if there was no accident. it was a slightly painful read this time, especially in the sections where he & june described how much they miss one another whilst june was away - it reminded me of the love i have for my partner, and how special it is to me. but ultimately it left me with the impression that action is the most important thing in life. and i thank peter spencer for sharing his story, and eileen waugh for narrating it in such a beautifully captured manner.
