Jake Nanden is a man scared of his own soul.

It’s been over ten years since Gary Enquine sent my friend Przeltski to a certain death. Not one day has gone by without the memories of that battle prowling my mind like a waking nightmare. Many times I have woken in a cold-sweat thinking about it. I will not rest - can not rest until Gary Enquine has been brought to justice and been forced to pay for his cowardice. Ten years; its a long time but I can be patient. Jake Nanden 2101, Feb 3. 1.

Major Jake Nanden is a soldier so well decorated that his fame reaches far beyond the desolate moon Io where he is stationed. His victories in the Jupiter Wars are hollow though, for he is a man scared of his own soul. Seeking vengeance for the death of a friend ten long years ago, he has pursued his own personal demons with an almost religious fervour through life and through battle. But deeply buried memories will turn his world upside down and reveal just how fragile life and beautiful the human spirit can be.

The second volume in Iron series - Unknown Place, Unknown Universe is now available.

Lazlo Ferran: Exploring the Landscapes of Truth.

Educated near Oxford, during English author Lazlo Ferran’s extraordinary life, he has been an aeronautical engineering student, dispatch rider, graphic designer, full-time busker, guitarist and singer, recording two albums. Having grown up in rural Buckinghamshire Lazlo says:

“The beautiful Chiltern Hills offered the ideal playground for a child’s mind, in contrast to the ultra-strict education system of Bucks.”

Brought up as a Buddhist, he has travelled widely, surviving a student uprising in Athens and living for a while in Cairo, just after Sadat’s assassination. Later, he spent some time in Central Asia and was only a few blocks away from gunfire during an attempt to storm the government buildings of Bishkek in 2006. He has a keen interest in theologies and philosophies of the Far East, Middle East, Asia and Eastern Europe.

After a long and successful career within the science industry, Lazlo Ferran left to concentrate on writing, to continue exploring the landscapes of truth.

Filled with action and questions about humanity

I'm not usually a fan of war movies and stories about soldiers, but this one is different. Jake might be a battle-hardened warrior but he's also an interesting character, worried about his own identity. With spotty memories "implanted" into his replicant body, Jake Nanden has one goal in life, to seek justice against his enemy, Gary Enquine. Enquine was responsible for the death of Jake's friend, Prezeltski, and Jake won't retire until Enquine is tried for cowardice in a military court.

There are many bloody war scenes in the novel, but the realistic picture of a possible future society is painted with a deft hand through first person narrative. How can Jake commit to marry if he's unsure of his own identity? Can his bravery and extraordinary military leadership gain him enough clout to order the court martial of Enguine? Jake is clever--solving a military mystery--and he's brave--charging headlong into battle when the odds are stacked against survival. The real surprise of his story comes when Jake learns the truth about his past. He must evaluate the impact of this knowledge on his future.

This book should appeal to military buffs, fans of robotics or BLADE RUNNER-type stories, and those readers who enjoy a good science fiction story. It's part of a series about a society willing to fight for precious iron ore, a commodity used to build artificial worlds and spread "civilization" throughout the galaxy. Iron worlds are filled with replicants, androids, and blankers, but the reader must decide how much value should be placed on the life of each one. Journey with Jake into a future just a century away from our own but don't get too close to that bright sun!

A great SciFi read, with great character development.

This is the first book I read from this author that made me a loyal follower. Not only are there solid edge-of-your-seat SciFi battles, but a statistically true unbalance of technology that has a real-world attempt at stealing the technology. As is true today, turns out there is a nefarious third party supplying the more advanced technology. Another refreshing difference from standard SciFi fare is that character development is very rich and makes for realistic complex interpersonal relationships and an individual’s anxieties and self-doubt. Overall, a nice balance of all the traits that make for a solid work and an engaging read

"Too Bright The Sun" by Lazlo Ferran is a spectacular piece of science fiction. Well written with deep and interesting characters it combines science fiction action and entertainment with reflection on humanity.
He handles the moral and ethnic issues that often creep up in science fiction but rarely get treated with serious thought particularly well.
Supply of iron across the Universe and the various space colonies and the role and treatment of clones made me think a lot about the future of our planet and human kind.
For fans of regular scienc fiction however there is plenty of enjoyable reading to be had: heroes, rebels and space travel, to name but a few.
The title already mentions those excellent main ingredients in this scientifically also very competent thriller. A writer to watch.
