After a decade in broadcasting, Riddell quit to pursue a passion he had inherited from his grandfather, who was a conductor on the Chesapeake & Ohio railroad. Now he has a quarter century of his own tales to tell, from his beginning on the Seaboard Coast Line to his current position as an Amtrak Engineer. No index or bibliography. Annotation c. What a great book! I was completely hooked. The stories Mr. Riddell colorfully and eloquently tells range from humorous to pensive to even tragic. His love for his craft and for railroading is apparent in every page. The book reads more like a collection of stories told over cups of coffee than one cohesive narrative, and for this week’s long trips on Amtrak, that’s exactly what I was looking for.
The author having a broadcasting background and later as a magazine writer on top of being a railroader with great stories helped make this one of the best written railroad biographies I've read.
