What a great book! I was completely hooked. The stories Mr. Riddell colorfully and eloquently tells range from humorous to pensive to even tragic. His love for his craft and for railroading is apparent in every page. The book reads more like a collection of stories told over cups of coffee than one cohesive narrative, and for this week’s long trips on Amtrak, that’s exactly what I was looking for.

I enjoyed reading this book quite a bit. If you're interested in the life of a modern-day railroader, this is a good book for you to read...

The author having a broadcasting background and later as a magazine writer on top of being a railroader with great stories helped make this one of the best written railroad biographies I've read.
