Born into a military family, I traveled widely in the United States and Europe while I was growing up, something that I've continued to do as an adult. My work first in teaching and administration and subsequently in education publishing has clearly shaped my professional writing. Most of my books deal with aspects of education practice, including instruction in English language arts (particularly writing) and the visual arts. I also write concerning gay/lesbian issues in education, though mostly in the form of essays, articles, and book reviews for scholarly/academic journals. I occasionally write fiction, some of which can be read under my pen name, D.J. Reid, on BookRix at http://www.bookrix.com/. I also write two blogs: Arts in View at http://artsinview.blogspot.com and Writing Tips for Teachers at http://writingtips4teachers.blogspot.com
