A choice that will determine the fate of humanity…
Enigmatic and sexy, Benjamin is a college student haunted by dark, uninhibited dreams. That is until his awakening when his visions turn into his own personal hell. Benjamin is a revenant, a reincarnated soul with a deep, consequential past. His return was not only destined but cursed, sending him on a sinful exploration of seduction and survival. Now, he must remedy his past and fulfill his destiny before it’s too late.
Roch is an intuitive plagued by an unrelenting succubus. And though he is not a revenant, his connection to Benjamin is no coincidence. When Benjamin, his new roommate, saves him from the soul-stealing sex demon, they are thrust into a battle against the forces of evil and the most ancient of conspiracies rear up.
As they are drawn deeper into the dangerous and enticing world of temptation, forbidden desire and retaliation, they must fight the demons within or risk losing everything, including their souls. Temptation Unleashed is the beginning of The Temptation Trilogy, a darkly erotic series that will take hold of you, send your mind racing, and never let you go.
Sherry Stanfield is a Registered Nurse and a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant by day and an author by night. She resides in Louisiana. She enjoys reading paranormal fiction, erotica and medical mysteries. Encompassing all of these elements in her own imaginary world left her embarking on a new journey, one that she never envisioned for herself. Having finally put fingers to keyboard, her characters came to life and wouldn’t let her go.
She extends her hand out to you, welcoming you to join her in one man’s journey through the dark and enticing world of temptation.
I'm normally not a big fan of erotica or erotic romance because I believe very few authors get it right. When a book consists of a series of stringed sex scenes and little else, I tend to get bored and set the book to the side, unread. I need plot and most of all, good characterization. When I read Sherry Stanfield's 'Temptation Unleashed', I couldn't believe this was a debut book. Quality erotica is not easy to write, contrary to what some may think. This book was very enjoyable to me - impressed me even - and is one I'd heartily recommend. Also, I understand that this is a series, so I expect some questions to be left unanswered and addressed in future books. The sex scenes are very, very, very hot and written in a fluid and skillful style. The author did an excellent job here, and in my humble opinion, she'd rate among the top erotica authors for sex-scene-hotness. The world-building is expertly handled and the characters are fun and lovable (at least the good ones :)). I believe that any lover of paranormal erotica or paranormal romance would enjoy this book.
First, let me say that once I started this book I could not stop. From moment one it was good. Usually within the first 10-20 pages I've determined if I like the book. I liked this from page ONE. I am used to reading books about women being super but this book was a change for me considering it was male dominated. It was not like the other male centered stories because this elaborated on feelings and how the main character looked, felt, thought. When it described the women in his life they were brief descriptions unlike J.R. Ward's BDB series or Gena Showalter's series. Overall I loved this book it was very very likeable and readable. It had great flow and detail and I was able to feel like I was in the story not just an outsider reading the story.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP).
What Worked For Me:
The unique and interesting take on the vampire genre. I really enjoyed the idea of revenants, psychic powers, auras, etc. It kept me on my toes, guessing what would happen next.
The hot, steamy sex scenes were great as well. I usually don’t read erotica, but the scenes were unique and exciting each time.
I also found the friendship between Roch and Ben refreshing and believable. Their friendship is often tested, but they work through it and continue to support one another. I found it realistic and heart-warming.
What Didn’t Work For Me:
The dreams. There were too many of them, and at times, it felt like I was being bashed over the head with all the foreshadowing. Also, most people don’t remember every single detail from their dreams. Ben could have a vague sense of what happened in the dream, but to remember every little detail seemed rather unrealistic.
Along those lines, I was also confused by the dreams/visions/voices. It took me until almost 60% into the story to figure out that there were two different people haunting Ben: Gabriel and Vinson. I am still confused on the connection between Gabriel and Ben. I’m not even sure who or what he is. Which makes me think he ought to be cut out entirely since it only confused me. But if he is important to the story, I think differentiating between Gabriel and Vinson should be done early on.
The first half of the book seemed to drag a bit for me. Within the blurb, I figured out that Ben was changing or transforming into a vampire. It took Ben much longer than I expected and would’ve liked for him to figure it out on his own. Because once he did figure it out, that’s when things got complicated. And complicated is interesting. It grabbed my attention, and I wanted to know what Ben’s life would be like from then on.
The last issue I had was with the character Sarah. To me, she seemed to be just tossed in as a device to complicate Ben’s life even more. I didn’t understand why Vanessa wasn’t good enough for him. And when he ran back home to be with Sarah, he lost all of my respect, and from then on out, I didn’t really care if he died or not. The only person I cared about was Roch.
If the author wants me to be all for him and Sarah, there needs to be more reasons as to WHY he’s so hung up on her. From my perspective, Vanessa is the obvious, better candidate. Because honestly, if he’s soooo in love with Sarah, why is it soooo easy for him to f*ck Vanessa and not even think about Sarah while doing it? All the times he’s with Vanessa, he doesn’t once think about his ex until she finally calls. He doesn’t seem to have any problems being with Vanessa while his heart still belongs to Sarah. It makes me despise Ben, and as the main character, I really don’t want to. I want to be on his side, to understand his actions, but when he gets back with his ex, I’m just left feeling incredibly sorry for both Vanessa and Sarah.
Overall:
The friendship and the unique take on the paranormal genre are worth picking up this book for. Even after my distaste for Ben’s actions, I’m surprised that I found myself engrossed in the plot and wanting to find out what happens next. I’m probably more emotionally invested in Roch, but I’m still crossing my fingers that Ben will redeem himself.

Even though this book is packed with erotic, steamy content, if I think about it as an erotic romance, it doesn't quite work for me, because Vanessa, the girl in most of the sex scenes, may not be the endgame girl, and I'm not getting his attraction to Sarah, girl #2 in this love triangle at all. She's duller than dirt and seems way to boring and uptight for the person he is and the person he's becoming. I'm hoping Ben is just having a hard time letting go of the past and is clinging to what feels safe and comfortable. But I don't like her and I don't get his attraction. It's a tell over show thing. He says he loves Sarah, but I don't see it or feel it. And she's introduced so late in the book, that I was slanted against her from the beginning. The women are quite underdeveloped compared to the guys, so it's hard to feel an attachment to either, but of the two, I think he's much more compatible with Vanessa. I really have no clue how it will turn out or who he will choose by the end of the trilogy, if any. It could be someone else entirely or no one at all. Often with a love triangle, there's a hint, but in Temptation Unleashed, I really don't know, and that's a good thing, an excellent hook for Book 2.
If I think about this story as a character journey, however, one that has eroticism and romance and unfolding dark secrets along the way, then it's a home run. What I loved most about this book was the dark edge that kept creeping out in Ben and his struggle to be comfortable in his own skin. The dreams and secrets and fantasy/paranormal elements were cool, but just watching his unleashing and emergence was mesmerizing enough. Getting a guy's perspective was nice and it rang true to me, especially as he gets darker and darker. All the guys are yummy and intriguing. I liked the external conflict as well, with enemies like succubi coming out of the woodwork. In spite of story elements that have been done before, the way they're wrapped up in this particular package feels fresh and exciting from every angle. And the sex scenes are hot and well-written. I like a strong, sexy guy with a penchant for dominance, so I'm hoping Ben can find his best match.
Oh Little Ben... you are in big trouble! I know I'm not supposed to be rooting for the Succubi in this series but man, they are a force not to be reckoned with... and, I love a female character that is so good at being bad. You do not want to make these little ladies angry... nope you don't. Very well written characters. This is a very sensual and erotic read... and, it kind of has to be that way since Ben (a revenant) and the succubus draw energy through their sexual encounters. It seems that everyone in this book has only one thing on their mind! Mostly because they are all being influenced by forces unknown and that makes for a lot of superficial one track minded agendas. I loved how the story began with Ben and Roch as two somewhat ordinary college students and then we gradually see a slow and steady development of these two characters as they come to realize the truth about themselves. Roch was my favorite of the two... I was definitely surprised when we finally learned what he is capable of and it looks like there is more to come for him. I could really feel the conflict that both of these characters were experiencing in coping with the reality of not being normal. Thought these characters were very well written as well. This is a very creative and engaging story... BUT... it ends on a cliffhanger. So, for all of you impatient readers... just FYI... this is a trilogy. I would recommend this book for fans of paranormal erotica... I liked it and will be looking for book two when it comes out.
Thanks to the group... Lovers of Paranormal... for the complimentary ARC!
Temptation Unleashed is well-written, hot, interesting and attention grabbing. It will definitely be a treat for fans of the paranormal who are looking for something to excite. The novel has excellent aspects that will keep the readers wanting more. Ben is an excellent voice to use for the story. His tone and dialogue allows for both serious reading with beautiful diction as well as chuckling to yourself over the sense of humor.
The plot in Temptation Unleashed is interesting, and throughout the entire expanse of the novel, holds the readers attention, and it is a relief to find a novel that does not show all vampire-like creatures as beings who are not killers. I prefer my vampire-like creatures to be exactly that. Also, the presence of auras, energy transfer, and physic abilities is really cool to read about. I thought those added a nice touch to the story.
There were some disappointments that I had with the novel. I found it to be just a little bit predictable. Also, all of the characters seem to be a little too perfect, and that does make them easy to relate to. Of course, I don't usually read too many erotica novels, and it is possible that those characteristics are more common in this particular kind of fiction. Even so, this did not distract from the story too much.
All in all, I think that fans of this kind of genre will be extremely pleased by Temptation Unleashed, which brilliantly displays the conflicts between good and evil - even found within ourselves. This is a start to a promising trilogy, and I can only hope that the following books will be written as well as the first.
I really enjoyed this book. I read the first two chapters here on Goodreads and right from the beginning, I was hooked and wanted to read more. The main setting is on a college campus and deals with life at University. I feel the character development and writing in this book was good and I really enjoyed the storyline. I felt that the story flowed well and was believable.
The author got her inspiration from Robert Pattinson and I can definitely see the connection. I imagined the main character Ben to look like Dean Geyer (originally from Australian Idol a few years ago) while Roch to look more like Rob Pattinson.
Although this book doesn't deal directly with vampires it definitely has a paranormal theme which I loved. This book should eventually be a trilogy and I am looking forward to reading the next two books in the series.
I am giving this book 4.5 stars because it held me captive throughout and I continued to need to know what happened to each character. I am also looking forward to the next instalments. If you like sexy paranormal books then you will definitely enjoy this book!
I was gifted this book by the author for an honest review so you can read my full entry at Bec's Book Blog.
Wow!! I even know where to begin....I've known Sherry for several years, worked with her for a while and had absolutely NO idea that she had this WONDERFUL WRITING ability! I normally read modern day romance, thrillers and recently started to read some erotica. I even occasionally liked paranormal. In fact, I was reading an Abbi Glines writing when Sherry sent me her book to read. I wanted to finish what I was reading before I started something new, so it was a week or so that Sherry's book sat in my email box waiting to be read....with that being said, I truly didn't know what I was missing.
Benjamin is a young college student just coming in to his own, in more ways than one. His journey is both exciting and enlightening and VERY erotic from the onset of the book. As he "awakens" into his "existence" and learns who he truly is, he embarks on a journey he won't soon forget. His roommate, Roch, befriends him and is an asset in this journey as they battle anything from succubi to the Hounds of Hell.
Very exciting, hard to put down...read it in the evenings after work until I just couldn't hold my eyes open any longer. Sherry is a master story teller and keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat! I CANNOT WAIT until the second book is released! Hurry up my friend and send it off to the publisher......I'm ready for the next installment of "The Temptation Trilogy!" Much Love, Karyn
Since Ben doesn't know anymore than us readers, we have to be patient and go at his pace. This is a good read but I think my problem is that it seems no one knows anything anymore. I just seem to be picking books with the same theme lately. That is my fault but still takes some of the excitement out of the book for me. I know I have to go through it with them and Sherry did a good job with revealing the secret's of Ben's life. I like that she kept me occupied with other things in Ben's life like school, friendships, sex, battles with his mortality/humanity as well as some determined succubi instead of sitting there with up just listening to him ponder all this in his mind.
I like the characters and I like that Ben and Roch still found a little humor even though they were fighting to save themselves. The one person that was off putting to me was Vinson. Every time he injected himself into the story I wanted to wave him away like a little annoying gnat. Roch is still a bit of a mystery and I wanted to learn a little more about him and his ability.
Temptation Unleashed is a good start for a trilogy and I want to see how things work out for Ben and Roch. What happened to Gabriel? The book also has a great amount of sex but I thought the author did good with keeping the scenes fresh. There is a lot of action and being that this is self published, the editing is great!
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal)
Wow! What an incredible read. The action is so well written and completely realistic. I was right inside Sherry's world and enjoying every minute of it. Definitely a paranormal sexy, exciting, ride! And one of the coolest things that I really appreciated, the erotic sexiness was absolutely relevant to the story line and not just added for the sake of sexy time. I can not wait for the next book.
As an author I am deeply impressed with Sherry's imagery, and ability to describe her scenes. Paranormal things were happening but as mentioned, it was so realistic. You completely relate with the characters. Her ability to describe emotions, and inner turmoil have you gripping the book (or kindle) white knuckled waiting to see what is going to happen next. I truly was on the edge of my seat wondering, anticipating, for nothing in this book is predicable.
What an excellent story teller. What an amazing series to be able to delve into. I have a new favorite author to watch for new releases!
I would like to start by saying that over the past year I have been trying to expand the type's of books I read. Not know what to expect, I read this book in return for giving an honest review. I absolutely loved the book. This book caught your attention within the first few pages and just kept getting better. The imagination of the Author had you picturing the scene's with vivid clarity. As the book went on you just constantly wanted to know what was going to happen next as the relationships grew and intertwined you just wanted to keep reading. The book was so very well written I look forward to reading the next one. Can't wait. A year ago this in not a book I would have considered reading however, my mind is forever changed. Congratulations Ms. Stanfield!!!
I would also like to thank Natalie for the opportunity to read such a wonderful book!
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (Lop) I wish I would of waited to read this book, because knowing that the other books are not out yet has me wanting!! Very well put together story, the steamy scenes left you hot and were realistic not corny or over the top like some books. Ben is a good guy going through some changes that he doesn't understand or want to except and we get to go through it with him from the beginning. He has to learn to deal with and use his new found powers and not get himself or his friend Roch killed. He also must choice between Sarah his first love and Vanessa his infatuation. I loved this story and can not wait for the next volume, please Ms. Stanfield don't make us wait long!
I received this book thru lop for an honest review. Well I loved this book! There is action, sexy hot sex scenes, and heart. I loved the characters and story. I can't wait to read the next book. I love Ben & Roch two ordinary guys roomed together for college. They became friends and by the end of the book thru have had fights, good times, odd things happen to both of them and they saved each others lives. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read it but if you want to read an awesome book with action, sexy Paranormal guys and girls, with sex scenes this is a great read for you! Thank you again for letting me review it :)
I am not sure what I was expecting but this was not it. It is well written and the story flows really well. It had me from the beginning and was hard to put down even when I had trouble keeping my eyes open. I enjoyed this story and can't wait to see what happens with Ben, Roch, Gustav, Vinson, Sarah and Vanessa. If you like a little bit unusual (not much different than I usually read) then give Sherry Stanfield a try, you will enjoy it too.
This was such an incredible story, very different from other paranormal romance I've read. I couldn't put it down! Ben is such an enigmatic character that I loved finding out more and more. His inner struggles, his passion, his determination to understand what is happening to him made this story so powerful. I also enjoyed his sense of humor! I can't wait until book two comes out. Highly recommend this book! Kudos, Sherry, for such a terrific read:)
This book is an amazing read. It had me hooked from beginning to end. I just had to know what was happening to Ben in this intriguing story. Sherry is very clever in her style of writing. If you love books about the paranormal, erotica, or both, then you should not overlook this book. Can't wait to read the next two books in this book trilogy! Go on give it a go...You won't regret it!!!
I just started reading this book and could not walk away. I have read thru chapter 7 and this book is going to keep me up all night not wanting to put it down. I may even read it twice. Great read
This book wasn't just a hill to climb--it was a mountain.
I have a pretty solid hate/love relationship with this book, and I can tell you my reasons.
First off, the book was extremely poorly paced! The book took way to long (167 pages) to get into the actual meat of the story! Didn't really give you any answers until about 90 pages, then when you think, something good is going to happen, info dumping is slammed at you with all the subtly of a sledge hammer. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. They were like paperdolls wandering around in this very detailed paranormal world, and I found myself roaming around with them just wanting to know WTF?
The first half of the book--well 167 pages took me a whole week to finish. That NEVER happens. When we finally get some answer, hit page 90, I was so invested at that point, I felt I owed it to myself to finish.
Now, I keep mentioning page 167.
THAT is when the story start. If the author would have started the book at page 167 we all would have been fine with a subtle chapter recap of the first 167 pages. If it has started there, the book would have been a five star read for me. I just had to wade through so much crap that drooled on, (I mean really how many times do I have to read about a guy dreaming and then getting up and taking a detailed shower?) ONCE! Just tell me ONCE about his shower, I don't need to know every time. It would yank me out of the story and I would put the book down each time and come back to it the next day.
The upside? The story line was unique. I love stories about succubus and once we got to the juice of that--I was in it until the end, I finished it in one night once I hit that point. I love that the story was told from a male POV. We don't get that often, and when we do get it, it sounds 'girlie'. But Ben was a man, and he even talks like a man when he talks about getting hot. I was like yep, this works for me. I wasn't sold on either love interest in the story. He could have ran of with a mermaid by the end and I would have been, "Too bad for you suckers! You're both pathetic and whiny! BYE!" The whole too stupid to live comes to mind.
The men in the story are great, even the succubus I like better than the love interests! Perhaps spin that in book two?
In sort I was stuck in the middle with this book, because it wasn't terrible, but nether was it terribly engaging either.
**I received a copy of this book via the goodreads group Lovers of Paranormal on behalf of the author in exchange for an honest review**
