Rate this book
Coded G6, the first book in The Trexel Series, is more than a college romance; it’s an introduction to the secret behind an immortal race. Claire is undeniably lured into Michael’s realm when she returns to Anchorage, AK to earn her sophomore credits. She questions their intense chemistry, however, when she turns privy to his extraordinary thought bending abilities. Beneath his role as a student, Michael has other obligations; primarily, acquisition of the next viable prospect for his exclusive group. Testing Claire and others without their consent, he learns that she meets biological prerequisites to membership. Her safe, predictable life shifts into a bizarre reality when limitations of mortality and restrictions of human capabilities begin to dissipate.

This novella was a waste of time. If I didn’t promise to read it and write a review, I’d have stopped reading after the first 5 pages. Nothing happens to the protagonist Claire for most of the story. The brief chapters are filled with unnecessary details, paragraph after paragraph of boring exposition, while the action is confined to Claire’s random interactions with her roommates, classes and college parties, and the girls’ endless angst about the boys. Plus text messages studded with numbers and mutilated English words.
Of the 13 chapters, something starts happening only in chapter 12 – Claire’s heartthrob confides in her that after some scientific experiments, he’s becoming superhuman. He can read thoughts, control the weather, and generally perform like a godling. Really?! And he wants her to join his secret club/laboratory.
It might become a decent beginning to a story, if the author would just cut off or summarize the first 11 chapters into one terse paragraph and start in medias res in chapter 12. The back story could then be dished out in small dozes, if necessary for the plot. We don’t need to know the colors of all the male characters’ pants, but we do need to now what the protagonist wants right away. Everything extraneous should be deleted.
As it is, the story is raw. It needs lots of rewriting. Overall impression: Yikes!

I liked this book, but it was a bit jumbled and disorganized. Some parts of the book were confusing and didn't add to the story or the plot (like Stella almost being assaulted - that left me scratching my head a bit). However, the story was intriguing and has great potential. I like the fact that this is a young adult novel that isn't vampires or magic - science is more fun and believable. I am exited to read the next one and look forward to watching this author grow.

I wasn't so sure how I was really going to like this book once I got it started. I have to say that I loved this book and I really am needing the second book because now I have to know what happens next. This is a quick and easy read that was very enjoyable to read. Everyone give it a try I think you will love it and you will be waiting with the rest of us for the next book. - RJH

I reviewed this book for our blog (book boyfriend reviews). I liked it. I liked the mystery behind it. And can not wait for the next part of the series to answer all the questions that this one left me with. I liked the unknown draw to MDK, heck I had it to. So many questions, can't wait to see where it goes.

This was a very quick and enjoyable read. It is a great pre-novel to the series and I am looking forward to reading more. I am still a little confused on exactly what the plot of the series is supposed to be but I think it will be more clear as the story develops.

This book was a fun romp in the college scene, with a little intrigue thrown in to make it compelling. This is a quick, fun read for one of those nights when you're not sure what to read next. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
