Reece Winner For The Win: the making of a teen humanitarian

When twelve-year-old Reece Winner's parents buy a pub overlooking the stunning coastline of North Cornwall, his life appears perfect and probably would be, if it wasn't for the bullying he occasionally has to deal with. But things take an unexpected turn for the worse, when his parents split up and his father's potential bankruptcy threatens to destroy everything he values. He is befriended by Kara, a classmate who is carrying her own emotional baggage, following her father's suicide three years previously. She offers Reece consolation and support, while helping him to face the tragedies that conspire to overwhelm him. However, she becomes much more than a shoulder to cry on and inspires Reece to chase an ambition that most teenagers could only dream of.

About the author

Kevin Armes was born in Nottingham, UK, is a former Health Service clerical officer, a publican of over 20 years and a parent to a 15-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter. As a child, he enjoyed the adventures of Enid Blyton and has regularly visited Cornwall, where so many of her books were set. It was perhaps inevitable that he should set his debut novel in this same location. In 2010, after selling his last pub business in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, he decided to commit fully to writing and moved with his family to the county that has inspired him, relocating to the picturesque fishing village of Polperro.

Dear Kevin. It was a great pleasure reading your amazing book during my stay in lovely Peak House in Polperro. It was the ideal surrounding landscape to immerse myself in your moving story. What a lovely, affectionate and warm-hearted story about the relationship of a father and son going through the ups and downs of life, caring for each other.

This book is a wonderful insight into the thoughts, fears and life of a teenage boy, about the break up of a relationship and the hardship that can cause. It was written by my brother Kevin, congratulations Kevin, excellent!
