Unemployment. Environmental damage. Poverty. Economists Victor Claar and Robin Klay critically engage mainstream economic theory and policy recommendations to provide guidance for faithfully and responsibly addressing these and other important economic issues. Affirming that a just and prosperous society depends for its continued success on maintaining the right balance of power among three principal spheres--democratic governments, market-organized economies, and strong moral and cultural institutions--Claar and Klay demonstrate how Christian principles and values guide and undergird a flourishing and just economy. This text is for use in any course needing a survey of the principles of economics.
Dr. Victor V. Claar is a professor of economics at Henderson, the public liberal arts university of Arkansas, where he specializes in teaching principles of economics courses, and also serves on both the graduate faculty and the Honors College faculty.
Very basic economics. Suitable for the untrained and in this respect it was good. But not helpful to meet or anyone with basic to medium economics training.
I was very disappointed with many conclusions. For example the chapter on global trade to a fine job talking about benefits to all parties, the importance of good government and property rights but then said Christians should buy stuff and donate to charity. Charity creates its own issues and no discussion was done around efforts to pay bettering wages etc
Basic economics, good for an untrained economist like me, but I felt the author was timid in the proposal he offered, specially for some like me that have economics values rooted in Jesus' sermon of the mountain, and in the gospel in general.
Victor Claar is another one of my author heroes. I try to read all of his stuff (as I have time between other projects.) Thanks, Victor, for putting out good stuff!
