The Little Book of Manchester

Rate this book
The Little Book of Manchester is an intriguing, fast-paced, fact-packed compendium of places, people and events in the city, from its Roman origins to the present day.
Here you can read about the important contributions the city made to the history of the nation, learn about the individual communities and how they came together to form the modern city and meet some of the great men and women, the eccentrics and the scoundrels with which its history is littered.
A reliable reference book and quirky guide, its bite-sized chunks of history can be dipped into time and again to reveal some new facts about the story of this amazing city. This is a remarkably engaging little book.

The Little Book of Manchester is not exactly a historical recording of the City, but this is fast-paced book of vignettes of Manchester. If you want a history of Manchester, then I would recommend the author’s book on the History Of Manchester. This book was first published in 2013, then in 2015 and this reprint copy is from 2023.

This book has been written for people to dip in and out of and be able to quote various facts about Manchester than may not be commonly known. To a historian this seems to be the book where all the fun facts you find from your research have been published, which is great for those who do not have time to sit in archives and libraries.

The book has twelve delightful chapters that covers everything from Made in Manchester to Grand Designs via the Landmark Buildings. With a dash of Fun, Fun, Fun, to the Dirty Old Town. Also, with a wonderful chapter called On This Day, which does everything it says.

This is a great little book of facts.
