I purchased this book used to look at Fuertes' bird illustrations. Assuming it was a picture book, I started reading it thinking it would just be a "read the caption" assemblage. Wow, was I wrong. Fuertes was an amazing artist and much more an amazing man. What a loss that his life was cut so short by a car accident (yes, spoiler). I sure hope to catch an exhibit of his work. A huge thanks to Mr. Robert McCracken Peck for putting the book together. Excellent job.
