I'm pretty sure this book is a good five lbs at least. I was hesitant to check it out from the library because, non-driver, I'd have to haul it home on the bus (and then back to library a couple weeks later). Anyway I am so glad I did because this book is amazing! There are so many cool and weird creatures out there and I love reading about them. There are lots of photos and illustrations, and a good balance of text too, written by real biologists. Did you know that flamingoes could be as tall as a person? (that's freaking huge!). Orang utan means "man of the woods" in Malay and they make a fresh tree nest to sleep in every night. There's a creature called a frogmouth, which is actually a type of bird, that is so ugly and it's supposed to look like "a broken-off stub" so that other animals won't eat it. I really can't shut up while I'm reading this book (just ask Mark). Five stars, Encyclopedia of animals!
