This is a pretty good overview of Simple Minds in their early career, going from their first band, Johnny and the Self Abusers, into their split from that to create Simple Minds. This book was first published in 1984, so it only goes through Sparkle in the Rain. It covers fairly well their preceding albums, addressing in slight depth Life in a Day, Real-to-Real Cacophony, Sons and Fascination, Sisters Feeling Call, New Gold Dream, and Sparkle in the Rain, along with some notable singles.Though the author used only previously-printed material rather than interviewing band members, it seems to fill in some interesting history of their early days and their successes. Good for the curious fan of Simple Minds, aficionados of the Punk/New Wave movement in The U.K., and students of popular music history.
