As a pastor your job is filled with blessings and satisfaction, as well as unique challenges and pitfalls. Here a ministry veteran covers virtually all of those areas with a wealth of practical insight culled from 44 years in the pastorate. Blending his deep love of the Word and commitment to biblical ministry, Curtis Thomas offers a rich source of help and encouragement that will enthuse and benefit you whether you've pastored for five years or 50.
Of a completely different type of help for pastors than Richard Baxter's "The Reformed Pastor" and Charles Spurgeon's "Lectures To My Students," this book is nevertheless a very profitable read for every pastor and especially the young man embarking on his pastoral ministry. It is a good read and I give it to every young man becoming a pastor for the first time.
This is solid, if not original, and there is nothing to criticize, except that it is written in the context of a very traditional, 1980s, midwestern ministry.
A great overview of all the key areas a pastor will face in ministry. Not exhaustive (that’s impossible) but compressive. A must for pastors - especially beginners.
After a lifetime of faithful service in the pastorate, Curtis Thomas retired and wrote this collection of practical advice for pastors. Reading it was like sitting at the feet and listening to the thoughts of a man of great wisdom and experience. I appreciated the vast array of topics that he covered and I trust that the truths that I gleaned in this book will serve me for years to come. There is nothing ground-breaking or earth shattering about this book, but especially for the inexperienced minister who might not have many voices of wisdom in his life, this book would be a helpful resource.
