Change Your Heart, Change Your Life: How Changing What You Believe Will Give You the Great Life You've Always Wanted

Rate this book
Out of your heart flow your words and actions. Change your heart, and you'll change your life. According to best-selling author Dr. Gary Smalley, nobody has to live by the destructive subtle lies or believe the distortions of truth this world holds out to us. There are steps, strategies, and beliefs people can bring to their lives to either totally transform them or quietly improve them-and it all starts with hiding God's Word in their hearts. Hiding God's Word in his heart radically changed the life of Smalley himself, and he is seeing it revolutionize the lives of people around him as well-from lust, materialism, selfishness, anger, stress, overeating, anxiety, and guilt, just to name a few. No matter a person's age, experiences, or previous patterns, this book will guide readers to the whys and hows of orchestrating their beliefs to forever change their lives and relationships.

"What if I could show you a proven method of increasing your peace of mind, reducing stress to the point it almost disappears, & increasing the satisfaction in your marriage beyond your wildest dreams? Would you be interested?" - Gary Smalley.

A great book for those who truly want their lives to change, whether single or married. Gary is very forthright about the beliefs hidden in our hearts that control our lives - sometimes they're so hidden we haven't realised they are there! I was surprised by how certain beliefs were affecting how I lived. What I appreciated about this book was how Gary wasn't just giving the advice, but was also brutally honest about the beliefs that had been in his heart for 60 years, & how they had affected him & his family. How he overcame them is what this book is all about, & he shares it in this book because he wants us to have the same freedom he has found by replacing the beliefs we have hidden with the best beliefs that have been given to us by our Creator - yes, it does mean lots of memory verses from the Bible, but believe me, it's worth it! Gary does suggest various interesting ways to help you with memorising...I've found typing the verses out on different coloured bits of paper, & having them stuck around my room helps me. The reward...a changed heart, & a changed life!

I first read this book 5 years ago, & since then have noticed a huge change in my life! Hiding certain Scriptures in my heart has made such a difference in how I handle stressful situations & a whole host of other things.

As a child & teenager, memorisation was easy for me. At the age of 20 I became ill with CFS/ME & memorisation has been very difficult! I stuck with it though, & gradually have got them all typed or written up, so if I'm having a bad day & my memory just draws a blank, then I just get the verses out & read through them. On good days I remember them when I'm in the shower, doing food preparation, washing up etc.

This year has been a difficult one for me as things have kept going wrong, & my health has decreased. I decided that a refresher course of this book would be helpful. It was encouraging as I saw how much I have changed over the last 5 years due to the principles given in this book, & has also given me some fresh insights into how to handle life at the moment. I think this is a book I will read yearly, rather than 5 yearly as I focus on keeping the right principles & beliefs in my heart!

It will have you looking internally and externally with the Holy Spirit guiding you to transform your heart and life in every way.

Smalley makes an observation contained in the writings of the apostles John and Paul and restates them in the language of contemporary Christian counseling so they are available to the lay reader in the popular Christian literature...

Many of these types of Christian books are excellent. One has to have the motivation and attitude to make these principles work in day to day living.

Gary can be a little dry in this book but it's a good read. You can tell he's sincere and had a huge change of heart. The only kind that comes from a higher, more powerful source than self. He gives a lot of good scripture to memorize. He's very transparent and opens up about some things in his life that he had kept hidden and how he confessed it to God and sometimes to his family and asked for forgiveness.

I read this book a while ago and know that it really help me at the time. Gary Smalley had a number of books and audio's that I read and listen to, just can not remember which ones it had been a while ago. All I know is that he offers great great information for any couple that wants to build a strong relationship.

Powerful message about how our beliefs affect all of our interactions with others. The only person we can change is ourselves. We are not responsible for everything that happens to us - but we are responsible with how we respond to it (which comes from what we believe about it). It has inspired me to read 9-10 verses each morning and allow them to seep into my beliefs. Practical advice.

Good reminders and practical application.
Seemed to do a lot of repeating, which was helpful.
I also was able to retain a lot of what he had taught.
Not everything in this book is groundbreaking, but some very helpful reminders for the daily Christian walk.

Appreciated it a lot.

It helped me understand depression in a new way

I've suffered from depression my whole life but through this book I was able to understand that there is an actual physical component involved with depression and that it's not solely an emotional problem.
