An Introduction to Theories of Human Development provides a comprehensive view of the primary theoretical models of human development including those from the biological, psychoanalytic, behavioral, and cognitive developmental perspectives. Along with a brief discussion of a historical background for each of these approaches, this book examines the application of these theories to various aspects of human development, such as the effectiveness of early intervention, individual differences, adolescence, and sociobiology.
I was impressed with this introduction to development theories. It is very readable, and I found the way it was organized made it easy to compare and contrast theorists and get a good understanding of each one. I also appreciated the suggestions for further reader on different perspectives and theorists, and I enjoyed many of the recommended articles.
I would highly recommend this as an intro book on human and child development theory (or if you’re just looking for a refresher on things you learned about way back in college)!
