Abe thought he was ready for this. He’d watched the movies, read the books, and prepared accordingly. But when the monsters arrived, he realized Hollywood didn’t get all the facts right. Some of these zombies are not your father’s zombies — not even close.
Maybe it’s because the source isn’t a virus, but a fungus? Or that it was synthesized in a laboratory? But who would attempt something so dastardly? How many lives will be lost when humans manipulate what they should have left alone?
But the real question, the one the world will desperately seek to Who do you turn to when monsters are eating you alive? Well, unfortunately for you, it’s Abe and he really doesn’t care what your name is. He’ll just forget it anyway because he’s, well, he’s Abe. But he’s the guy you want on your apocalypse survival team, or maybe not. You’ll have to decide that for yourself.
The worst of it lurks in New York City, hundreds of miles away from Abe’s suburban Northeast Ohio home. And it’s an evil no one is ready for.
So let me ask you What if your flesh was seasoned by your fear of the monsters hunting you in the dark?
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio Bryan still lives in NEO (Northeast Ohio). A fan of all things creepy, except birds, Alfred Hitchcock ruined birds for Bryan; he sees a horror story in every moment of every day. But simply doesn’t have time to write them all down. He learned how to tell stories by talking himself out of trouble as a young man.
After spending years in corporate America, where he developed his crusty exterior, he decided it was time to do something he’s always wanted to do. You’re reading it or should be, so stop reading this and buy his book.
Gotta give it to Dean he really committed to the bit with the whole grumpy character thing and general air of misogyny wafting off of some characters. The take on the zombie apocalypse was pretty interesting but I'm not sure I want to continue with that cast of characters.
Abel needs to act like a grown up. Everyone is childish and silly. The book is NOT worth the time or the effort to struggle through the silly banter. One and done!!!!!

An oddly charming zombie apocalypse... Abe has spent years being ridiculed for his obsession with, and preparation for, a possible zombie outbreak but when it comes it is far worse than he could have imagined, not least because the zombies, or some of them, seem able to reason and are far faster than Hollywood has it! This outbreak is caused by a lab breech - where the good old ant zombie fungus Ophiocordyceps is being used in a clandestine 'super soldier' investigation by an international medical research exchange programme (with a covert agent in the team... ). The reader is privy to the reasons why there are actually two 'varieties' of zombie: the action, while concentrating on Abe's attempts to safeguard his immediate family and neighbourhood, gives us snapshots of (usually) catastrophic meetings of zombie and uninfected people.
A scientist, rushing his project, trying to save his family, makes a mistake. He becomes ground zero. One homeless man about to shoot up, then his spoon catches a drop of fungus. The two men become immortal enemies in their quest to secure food for their armies of undead. Three men, prepping for the zombie apocalypse, hiding their stash from their wives. Somehow these three end up saving their small neighborhood. But there is always one idealistic person who thinks there is a way to make peace with flesh eating zombies. The world as they alk knew it has ceased to exist. Once it starts the action doesn't stop. It kept me focused until the last word. The only frustration was the original infection. There could have been more detail, leaving it to the imagination is a tool. But it works better if there is just enough detail.
I have read and watched just about every type of book, series, movies, there is out on zombies. I too, like Abel, am preparing for the zombie apocalypse. Like Michonne on The Walking Dead I have my katana and know how to wield it. But unlike Abel never thought about fencing in my neighborhood. Good one! I was glued to the pages and have already picked up book 2 and can't wait to get started excellent story, new plot twist, two patient zeros, and two smart zombies! WOW! ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
After taking a break from reading (I know…shame on me), this was the book that I dove into first, and I’m glad I did. This series puts yet another fresh zombie twist on your more traditional zombie apocalypses. But what I really liked about this book was the character development and the emotional connections of some of the characters. I really want everyone to okay. I honestly feel that. And that, my fellow readers, is a trait of a wonderful story.
Wow. Zombie Fungus, So much funny and gruesome stuff. Abel, what guy. You want to kick his butt and you have to love him at the same time. A Great ride.
This book is a bit different from most of the zombie stories I have read. These zombies have intelligence and show signs of adaptation to survive. I plan on continuing the series.
