Bloody, violent, brutal and chilling gangster novel about a merciless killer and a vengeance. This little known novel was written by an american pulp writer, John McPartland (1911-1958), and is a fascinanting read with a sad and bleak ending. “Giuliano Colini”, a.k.a. “Johnny Cool”, is a memorable anti-hero, a real “angel of death”. But, for some reason I can't explain, I felt sorry for him. And please don't miss the movie too. “Johnny Cool” (1963) is an off-beat and intense neo noir film, directed with great verve by William Asher, with a nice script by Joseph Landon, aided by a good Billy May score, a good black and white cinematography by Sam Leavitt and powerful performances by Henry Silva (as Johnny Cool) and the beautiful Elizabeth Montgomery.
Ilmeisesti kömpelö suomennos teki tästä vaikeaa luetavaa paikoitellen, mutta synkkä väkivalta ja silkka kylmä brutaalius sai lukemaan melke innostuneesti loppuun. Ilmeisesti tästä kostotarinasta on tehty elokuvakin, mihin se sopii oikein hyvin surullista loppua myöten.
