Curses! Diedre had been banished from the Fae Realm and stripped of her magic by her father, King of the Fae, on her wedding day. Those were the first two curses. The Captain of the Royal Guard was now her husband and jailer. That was the third curse...and worse than the first two. This must be an omen of more cursing to come, he thought. Lokai must teach his bride to stop interfering in mortals lives as he protects the royal family from his own father. A man they all thought was dead. It had to be an omen of the dire times to come. Will he succeed this time, or is it impossible to destroy this evil?
I'm usually really good about reading series in order, only I got my wires crossed this time and read this book - the sequel to Blessing the Highlander - first. Luckily, Ms. Coulter has written it in such a way that you can actually read this book and enjoy it without reading the first one (though I have actually just started it now).
Lokai's Curse presumably picks up where the first book left off. Deidre, a Fae, is being punished by her father and has been banished to a small island. Her husband Lokai, also a Fae and next in line for the throne, accompanies her. Though he loves her deeply, he is guarded around her because Deidre has a horrible habit - she meddles. Worse, she doesn't think through the consequences of her meddling, and disaster follows. Lokai is determined to change all that.
Just when things seem to be going perfect - Deidre is learning to think things through and they are growing closer, an enemy plots in secret to destroy not only Deidre's father, the king, but also her sister, her husband, her brother-in-law and even herself and the baby she carries. Can Lokai save them all from the machinations of one he thought dead - one who shares his blood - or will his father succeed in his evil plans?
Lokai's Curse has the right amount of magic, blood shed, tender romance, sex and danger to make for a great read. I actually finished it in a couple of days, which is fast for me, because I couldn't put it down. If you like your heroes sexy and immortal, and your stories with plenty of twists and turns, then I can't recommend this series enough.
