• I’ve written six novels. The most recent, The Shell Keep, published in June 2023, and is my first novel aimed at adults.
• I've also written the Danny Chaucer's Flying Saucer sci-fi series, for 8-12-year-olds. There are three books currently in this series: Danny Chaucer's Flying Saucer, Moon Zoom and Mars Mission.
• My other two books are aimed at YA / teens – Falling Girl and BASIC Boy.
• I live and work in the UK, in the Oxford area.
• My main hobbies / pastimes, in no particular order are: spending time with my family, writing, reading, church stuff, films, walking and cycling.

What do I write?

Aside from the novels mentioned above, I’ve written a few short stories and flash fiction stories – and in many ways this the story form that interests me the most.

Why do I write?

I’ve always enjoyed it, but hadn’t done much about it until I turned forty. You could call it my mid-life crisis – at least it was safer than buying a motorbike and cheaper than taking up golf.

Which writers have influenced my writing / who are my favourites?

There are so many, but a very important one is Robert Westall. He was my favourite author in my early to mid-teens, and still among my favourites now. Most of his stories had a supernatural theme, and this is a key reason why I like ghost stories so much. He had a fantastically gritty, terse prose style and his characters were always utterly believable. One of his books - The Scarecrows - remains one of my very favourite novels.

UK author Christopher Peter has written several books for children and now offers his first adult novel - THE SHELL KEEP - and for those curious about the title, a shell keep is a thin round defensive enclosure built around the top of a castle motte. Intrigued? The catch the flavor of his writing as he opens the story: ‘Lying is underrated. It gets bad press, but really, what’s so very bad about it? I know lots of people, like teachers and the police and debt collectors, will tell you how the truth’s incredibly important. But then, that’s because they want something out of you, right?...’ Meet Liam, who finds peace only in the shell keep until Abby comes along and Liam’s penchant for telling white lies gets in the way until…well, read this fun novel to find out what happens!

Written with a fine wit, some hilarious humor, adding some thoughtful Christian insights, and a gift for storytelling, THE SHELL KEEP is a pleasure to read in every way. Christopher Peter enters the books for grown ups arena quite successfully! Recommended

This was my first time reading a book by Christopher Peter and "The Shell Keep" took me on an extraordinary and deeply personal adventure alongside Liam, a character who resonated with me on a profound level. “The Shell Keep” by Christopher Peter is a cleverly written novel that grabbed me from the very first sentence: “Lying is underrated.” The book is written in first person and we get an in-depth insight into the protagonist Liam’s world of thoughts and feelings. If this sounds boring or soppy, trust me, it really isn’t. Christopher Peter’s writing is humorous, sarcastic and insightful at the same time, and the story keeps moving forward without being dragged down by too much introspection. The mystery starts to build quite quickly and personally my interest didn’t waver for a moment. I can definitely recommend this as one of the best contemporary/mystery novels I have read recently. This book definitely deserves five stars!

In this great book, its protagonist, Liam, describes in first person his life, his hopes, and fears. Liam has had a difficult past, but he has left all that behind to construct a new life and a new future. But, has he? Really? Is the past coming back to get him?
The Shell Keep is an excellent novel that conjugates mystery, suspense, drama and contemporary issues to immediately captivate readers. It is the first adult novel written by author Christopher Peter, who is so versatile that has written books for children and young adults as well. By reading his books, we can notice that he clearly understands the quirks of the different audiences and knows how to appeal directly to each of them. I hope he continues writing more books for adults. I highly recommend this one.

The safety of the keep

Liam only feel safe in the safety of the show keep. And all the ups and downs of his life and a Troublesome Adventure said he has had to live through this is the one place that he can relax and regenerate his energies. But when he needs Abby she cooks with him out of the Shell Key and back into living in truly encompassing life. However with that comes new risks new adventures and new Mysteries and dangers. Will Abby prove to be just Liam needs or will Liam retreat back into the safety and Security of the shell keep? This was an intriguing book and certainly one that kept me interested. There was a little bit of everything in here that will appeal to most. I liked Abby and all she did for Liam. As a character it was nice to see him grow.

White lies…

The Shell Keep by Christopher Peter develops around Liam, a man whose life was traversed by many tragedies. His only refuge and comfort were the castle’s ancient shell until he met Abby. Everything seemed to be getting better but just at that moment, he was forced to face shadows from the past that threaten the false truth he has built.
I believe that no matter how ugly the truth is, it is always better than lying, and this story is a great example of that. It is a compelling story that caught me from beginning to end and I read it in one sit. I recommend it and I would like to read other works by this author; he has a lot of talent.

One of the things that I noticed was the style of author Christopher Peter; it has a very compelling way to connect with the reader and make them part of Liam's story. The book goes about him carrying the weight of a tragic past with lots of failures, but there is one place where he feels good. But that space may no longer be the only one when a new character is introduced.

I found a great plot line following this character that finds himself jeopardizing his stability and has to make very important choices. The novel has some very deep topics that lie behind the characters. It's a very intriguing and reflective story.

"The Shell Keep" written by Christopher Peter is a compelling account of a man's journey through the dark corners of his past, which were characterized by tragedy and failures, and his search for forgiveness and a better future.
The title of this book caught my attention as soon as I saw it. Not so its cover, which in my opinion could have been more eye-catching.
The protagonist of the narrative is Liam, a person whose life has been plagued by disaster and who seeks refuge inside the shell keep of an old castle. He finds some of the tranquillity that has evaded him for so long here. But when Liam meets Abby, his life takes an unexpected turn.

The Shell Keep by Christopher Peter is a contemporary Christian fiction that I really enjoyed reading. The plot tells the story of Liam and his fairly hard life and his constant efforts to continue, and his constant goings to the old castle tower where he finds some peace. The writing style of the author drove me into Liam's world and I could sense each scene vividly. I found this tale to be extremely interesting; as it deals with the complexities of human behavior, its choices and consequences. I was glued to the pages until the end, leaving me wondering about our nature of thought. This book happened to be not only an enjoyable read, but also a moving one. I highly recommend it.

Christopher Peter is the writer of “The Shell Keep”, a contemporary Christian fiction book with a great protagonist and great teachings. Liam has led a fairly hard life, but he manages to continue. His favorite place is the old castle tower where he finds some peace. Now, Abby is the one who brings some calm and tranquillity to his life.
I really enjoyed this reading and what I liked the most were the lessons it left behind. They always told me that each of our actions has a consequence, that is why we have to know how to act so as not to regret it later; this same message applies to Liam.

good life lessons for everyone

“The Shell Keep” by Christopher Peter is a very interesting book with quite a few good life lessons for everyone. Starting with one of the biggest things everyone should know these days. You don’t get far with lying. Sooner or later, it will all come back at you and it will be worse than before. Even a few white lies can have huge effects on a person's life.
That’s what I like about this book. It’s not just a story to entertain. It also teaches important morals for life. And the one that will teach you how not to do it is Liam, the main character. So, I can definitely recommend it.
