The Epistle of James: Proven Character Through Testing

Rate this book
What is "dead faith"? What is "justification by works"? The Epistle of James has been one of the most misunderstood books in the New Testament. Many have been confused by thinking that it contradicts justification by faith alone, apart from works. Many have used James to teach a doctrine of salvation by works. Is that what James meant to say? With careful analysis of the text, Zane Hodges clears up the confusion surrounding this epistle and demonstrates conclusively that it is a message that needs to be taken to heart by Christians everywhere.

Great commentary on James! I read this while taking a class on James, and both really opened my eyes to passages that had confused me in the past. Hodges has good arguments and backs them up in a way that is logical and readable. This book is very helpful in understanding the epistle of James.

This commentary was very helpful in teaching my Sunday school class through the book of James. Particularly chapter 2 and what "dead" really means. It doesn't mean non-existence.
