The crazy beautiful bags in this book provide perfect accents and dream handbags for every wardrobe --from Judith Leiber's sculpted, crystal-studded metal "minaudieres" to Kathleen Dustin's exquisite "Rose Bud" wrist and more. Features over 100 stunning pieces.
These are handbags as sculpture. My favourite form of art is form following function, think of Concorde, wind generators, le Corbusier sofas , the world's longest and most beautiful bridge, the 22 mile long Hangzhou Bay Bridge, China and the wondrous Sydney Opera House. I like this simplicity in writing too, I'm not one for ornamentation without a reason at all.
But I do make exceptions. And the cover of this book lured me in. Handbag art. Beautiful. Unfortunately there were very few other bags pictured in the book that lived up to the cover. All were nice, some were really attractive, but only one or two others were outstandingly beautiful. However, all without exception were much more beautiful than the phenomenally ugly Hermes bag which at $33,000 with a 2 year waiting list is apparently more desired than anything else by Manhattan mommies who think wealth brings with it style to be envied.
I have a confession to make. I wear mostly jeans or black yoga-style pants, I like 6" lug-sole shoes , none of these are expensive and they are all very simple. But my handbags - I love Betsey Johnson tiny ones. Expensive and over-decorated, all with a bow and gold medallion It's a dichotomy that lies at the heart of my soul. That or hypocrisy :-)
