Brandi is smart and outgoing, but sometimes insecure and gullible. Marisa is graceful and articulate, but often too driven. Shane is a natural leader with a lot of spirit, but rebellious and headstrong. The girls have been inseparable since middle school. But now they are playing in the big leagues, and it's time to grow up and start thinking about the future. And Port City, Texas, is not all that. High school drama has a way of solidifying or destroying friendships. Will they stay tight or get swallowed up by Port City High? Or will they go from freshman to senior year and beyond remaining the best of friends?
This book by Shannon Freeman has one of the most interesting plots in a realistic fiction novel that I have ever read. I love how we get a sneak peek on Romero's life as well as Robin's. I really enjoy how we get to see what the main character's siblings is like! They both really set the tone for this book. Romero, Marisa's brother, gets caught up with the wrong crowd and Robin realizes and accepts the new responsibilities that come with a child. As a matter of fact, the most heartwarming scene was when Robin, Shane, and their mother argue over the issue. Additionally, I really liked the situation with Marisa in particular in this book because of her, her brother, and her father. Her father almost gets deported over an argument in court, her brother and his consequences over drugs, and Marisa trying to make friends with Ashley really made me emotionally attached to this book. Brandi is also really great in "Deported"; especially in her recovery process but I can't help but think she sucks at choosing boys and listening to her conscience! I officially hate Bryce, a fairly new love interest for Brandi and I hope he ends up getting what he deserves later. I just hope he doesn't turn up like Stephen!!! Shane had a rather interesting part in this story. She really needs to choose which boy she wants to be with because love triangles always end up bad or with someone having their feelings hurt(although I am a sucker for them and enjoy the tension!) Overall great book and I am expecting the next!
