Dark Talents is a 2-in-1 package of Night Runner and End of Days by Max Turner—a fast-paced, exciting addition to the vampire genre
Night Runner: For Zack Thomson, the bizarre is commonplace. Living in a mental ward and surrounded by a host of strange characters, including Charlie, his wild and irrepressible best friend, and the beautiful but mysterious nurse Ophelia, Zack struggles to cope with an unusual illness that baffles all the local doctors. Then one night, an eccentric old man crashes a stolen police motorcycle through the front doors of the lobby to rescue Zack from an ancient and wicked evil. Zack soon finds himself thrust into an unfamiliar world of car chases, police hunts, teenage mayhem, girls, and murder. After stumbling from one disaster to another, Zack must confront a killer and come to terms with the truth about himself, his illness, and the likelihood of finding love after death. End Of Days: A year after the conclusion of Night Runner, Zack Thomson is still learning to cope with the changes in his new life. As he and his best friend, Charlie, try to establish a normal routine for themselves, a mysterious creature appears. Likened to the Beast of the Apocalypse, it begins to dismantle the network of support around Zack, who discovers he is more than just a struggling orphan—he is the subject of an ancient prophecy that relates to the End of Days. As friends and enemies, old and new, throw his world into chaos, he is forced to reexamine what it means to be good at a time when it seems that only the strong and ruthless can survive and find a way forward.
I don't normally like books about vampires, but this was different. It was fun and exciting.
The first book was fast paced, but it seemed like it was just setting up for book 2. Which isn't a bad thing. Maybe it's just because I already knew there was a second book and I couldn't get that thought out of my mind. For that Night Runner gets a 4/5.
The second book was a lot better. It retained a lot of the speed from the first book and there was never a dull moment. I even liked the small mystery element that was put on the table. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say in general. End of Days gets a 5/5.
I didn't even know there was a third book until after I finished, but I can't wait to pick it up and finish the series.
Dark Talents as a whole gets a 4.5/5 to average out both books.
For Night Runner: I liked how the main character's thoughts have detailed out his personality. The ending seemed rushed. Decent plot twists. Main characters Uncle seemed like a personality of strong ethics, but then is made weak by some offer to become an undead? What is that about. Over the course of a couple days, something he's never considered before is enough to break him? I miss that hobo vampire.
Original Review 1/26/2019 l completely forgot just how fast paced and crazy these book can get! I first read these way back in like 8th grade. I only read the first book back then, and never got around to reading End of Days. I remember absolutely loving this! I'm so glad that even now, 7 years later, I still love it. It remains to be one of my favorite books, no matter how juvenile it may be. It had a charm to it that made me love it back then, and it continues to make me love it now. I'd give it a solid 4/5, only because the first third of End of Days was really slow and not what I expected at first.
I loved it was thriving it was so full of Action and it mad me sad in some parts. I would recommend it u can understand books that are hard. Also you have to have some patients because the start kinda started out slow but then it went BAM right into action and also u have to think a lot about it because it is a mystery and sometimes it might be a wrong prediction.
