I read this to see if it would be an appropriate addition to our church library. For the majority of this book, it was hard to tell if it is a Christian book (which, I think honestly a lot of non-Christian people will appreciate). It's definitely Christianity-friendly by the end, however I think it could go a step or two further in contrasting The Secret's teachings with the Bible's teachings. (That being said, I think that's just not the intention for this book.)

[I flipped through the notes, and in the back I saw it endorses "The Watchman Fellowship," which concerned me because it sounds eerily reminiscent of the Watchtower Society. It turns out this group is a non-denominational resource group: an "apologetics and discernment ministry that provides research and evaluation on cults, the occult, and new religious movements from a traditional Christian perspective." They have a lot of information particularly towards understanding & witnessing to JWs, Mormon, and new age-y cults. And their statement of faith is solid. 😅

One of the authors is a former 4th generation Mormon who left the Mormon church and became a Christian. He's spent the last 40 years evangelizing people in cults.]

So I think this book is just meant to be a dissection of The Secret, with a brief comparison of its foundational teachings against science (thoughts do not become things) and Christianity (God is a real person and you are not God). I thought the "ONE, NONE, MANY, or ALL" worldview explanations effectively expressed why the teachings in The Secret leave either an exotic or an unpleasant taste in the readers' mouths.

This book also goes through the history of Rhonda Byrnes' message in The Secret, as well as providing background information on her sources and contributors. Occasionally it walks the reader through a few "follow the logic to the end" scenarios that kind of demonstrate the pitfalls of The Secret's teachings.

Rhonda Byrnes would have you believe The Secret aligns with science, every religion, and is behind all success anyone has had ever - and this book shows that that's simply not the case.
