Rate this book
They say a good man is hard to find. Kardell Spencer and Lewis Turner know this all too well. Neither is lucky in love.
Kardell Spencer is a hard-working, successful advertising company owner who has a no nonsense approach to work and professionalism.
Lewis Turner is Kardell's flamboyant, over-the-top employee. They are polar opposites. Lewis speaks how he feels. Sometimes the things he says are so shocking that they leave people around him gasping for air.
Mateo Lopez is a rich, handsome restaurateur and a new client for Kardell Spencer's company. When he takes a liking to Kardell, Kardell plays hard to get. Never one to miss an opportunity, Lewis quickly moves in and makes a play for Mateo's attention.
It all comes to a head when Kardell and Lewis each find out about the other's intent for Mateo. Mateo takes control of the situation and proposes a contest to see who will be the best man for him. But Mateo has an ulterior motive that puts both men's lives in jeopardy.  In May the Best Man Win , two men may find out that winning is not always winning.

M.T. Pope

Author M.T. Pope hit the literary scene in the Fall of 2009 with a knockout debut novel titled Both Sides of The Fence through the Publisher Urban Books/Kensington Books. M.T. Pope's thoughts of his first work of fiction are that of edginess, exploration, but effectiveness in getting people's attention on widely overlooked social issues.
Both Sides of the Fence was also pegged as shockingly realistic and over the top by his editor, publisher and many, many readers. Deeply filled with drama, suspense and graphic scenes, Both Sides of the Fence is a novel that doesn't disappoint the reader. M.T. Pope goes on record to say that with his first book 'either you're going to love it or hate it. There's no in between'. He doesn't get disappointed when a reader says 'it was too much' for them. He understands that not everyone will like it or finish it.
He continued his literary career and penned Both Sides of The Fence 2 & 3, which were released in 2010 & 2011. These two novels were just as successful as the first novel, even with a little less rawness within. Each one these have different plots and messages, but all are conjoined to hold a larger, impacting message; the message of communication, faith, family, struggle and cohesiveness as a unit.
In the spring of 2011 M.T. Pope was approached by bestselling author, Anna J to be including in an exciting anthology entitled Erotic Snapshots which was released that May and continues to be successful.
In the early summer of 2011 M.T. Pope was approached by his publisher for participation in an anthology entitled Don't Ask, Don't Tell. It was centered on the now repelled law by the same name. Again, M.T. Pope tactless the issue like only he can; Drama, suspense and ultimately, resolution. That work of fiction was released in the spring of 2012 and is successful as well.
At the end of 2011 M.T. Pope released his first independent selection; an e-reader short story entitled Don't Drop The Soap. He also completed his fourth full length novel, A Clean Up Man released in Fall 2012
In late Winter M.T. Pope gathered together three new and aspiring writers and presented another anthology titled Boys Will Be Boys in March 2012. The following month of May he released another novella entitled Stick Up Boys, which is his semi-street life based fiction. It remains one of his favorite works of fiction to date. M.T. Pope also began work on two short novellas entitled, Lost Pages of Both Sides of the Fence 1 & 2 of which Vol. 1 is being positioned for release in the late Fall 2012. He has also begun completion on his next full length novel, May the Best Man Win, to be released in 2013. New novel and story ideas are always popping into his head, during conversation or simple observing people. New and exciting things are in the future. He hopes that you will join him there.
His works of fiction has been seen in XXL Magazine, recommended in Carl Weber's novel Big Girls Do Cry and The Man in 3B. He's done numerous phone interviews, blog talk shows and e-magazine interviews.
M.T. Pope, is a born and raised Baltimorean. He was born into a large family with nine brothers and sisters. He's worked as a landscaper, movie theater concessions worker, an over the counter medication manager for Wal-Mart, pharmacy technician for Wal-Mart and a bookstore manager for Urban Knowledge Bookstores.
M.T. Pope loves to eat and cook. He enjoys action movies and getting a good night's sleep. He is an introvert by nature, but his writing speaks otherwise. He likes to write the drama but living it is for other. He likes meeting new people and getting in a good, meaningful, and enlightening conversation with strangers. He feels like he can learn anything from anyone given the opportunity, even if it's what not to do. He can be reached at the outlets.

I don’t even know where to start honestly.

Is this the type of book to be nominated for a Pulitzer? No way. Is it fast-paced, entertaining, and sometimes sexy? Yes.

So, I can’t say this is the best book I’ve ever read objectively because it lacks in a few areas and has a fair amount of typos. There are also a couple incidences of lowkey stereotyping Asians, which was really uncomfortable to read...
(“That little dick Asian myth must have skipped him. He banged it out for a good hour. He loved me long time. I snickered out loud at my last thought.”

Because of those factors, I can’t give this a 100% rating, but I did enjoy it and it was a fun distraction from stressing over school.

This was a story with an interesting/unexpected ending. B/c it was an audiobook it gave 2 endings. However, like a movie, it brings down the story if the actors or writers don't do a good job. The narrators had me give the story a 3 instead of a 5 b/c they were just to boring. They almost made you think you were listening to the same character if you didn't pay attention to the story.

Smh, eventhough I didn't trust Mateo from the very beginning, I did not see that shit coming!
Cordell and Louis, two co-workers that couldn't be any more opposites fell over the heels for the same guy. So much that they couldn't see they were both being played. Wanting the man that could finally give them all of what their heart desired, made it easy for them to fall right into his plan.
5*
I listened to the alternate ending that Pope made for the chumps (my words, not his), that needed happy endings. Both endings were dope but I favored the first ending because of the emotion he pulled out of me by it.

A fun, engrossing read. This book reminded me how fun pulp fiction can be. Lots of nuggets of wisdom like what you'd find written on the inside of a Dove chocolate wrapper, but Pope does a good job of selling his fantasy: showing why people want & how lust can cloud judgement.
Reading this book felt like listening to friends tell stories about their wild lives, the writing is warm & conversational. Recommend for a beach or commuter read.

They had me going until they agreed to risk it ALL for a man who they didn’t even know…like why?

This is a man thing ain’t it ?….wait Denis had some sense and he is a man so i guess it’s a dummy thing

Hated the first ending it was just way too final and left me hanging i accepted the second happy ending bc it made a lot more sense

Do i recommend?: yes i got some chuckles in

Wow! What a listen! Read/listen to this one! Was not expecting the ending or even the alternate ending. At first, it started really slow and was almost to the point where I was saying to myself just hurry and finish this s$$$, but then it turned around! All I can say is my goodness!

This was an interesting read. Why anybody will go through what the two men went through just to get a man is beyond my understanding but l guess that's entertainment. Plus people have done worse in the love of love so l can't complain. Besides the ridiculous challenges they had to do, l really enjoyed everything else. Kept my attention by beginning to end. Love scenes were short and to the point. Loved it.

I enjoyed the alternate ending better than the original. Just too much for a man neither knew. I suppose people are competing for a mate in other ways.

One thing I didn't enjoy was the repetition of words with the scenarios. Once I came to the repetitive portions I skipped them

That gimmicky alternate ending ruined this book. I like an author with balls and giving readers the choice of a "happier" ending was a cop out. UGH! I knew I shouldn't have read this book! Next time I wish he would just stuck to his guns and keep the grim ending.

I started reading M.T. Pope. May the Best Man Win was a good book, except for the ending. I was engrossed in the story of which man would win the contest until the ending and like wow, really. The ending was a complete twist of the plot and not in align with the rest of the story. I will continue to read his stories but the ending was a disappointment.
