This was so stupid. I read it in a kind of sentimental fit, because I remember reading it when I was something like 13 and thinking it just the most mysterious and gripping book ever. Well, this should not have been a surprise, but the novel was really astonishingly bad. The language was abysmal and stilted, with consciously inserted pretentious multi-syllable-words, the plot still felt mysterious - because it didn't make any sense! And that despite the incredibly heavy-handed allusions and clues... And it seems like the whole European population heard about this supposedly top secret society, with everyone constantly asking 'have you seen a ring somewhere?' 'Did you happen to come across a silver mask?' - straight up ridiculous... Do NOT bother with this one. I'm now ashamed for my younger self...
