In a 13th-century European kingdom, the sadistic and whorish Queen Valgerda poisons her competitors -- King Kharl and his wife -- and frames their innocent daughter, Princess Hildegarde, for the crime. Valgerda soon falls in love with the princess, who is found guilty of regicide and sentenced to burning at the stake. In her tearful desperation Queen Valgerda prays to Satan, asking him to intervene and let the princess become her immortal beloved. Her prayer is answered -- but not in the way she expected.

The elegant artwork and delightfully twisted storyline jumps back and forth between the dark superstitious medieval time and the "enlightened" modern world. Palace intrigues, incest, rampant pansexuality, sadomasochism, themes of devil worship and tentacle orgy dazzled even my thoroughly jaded mind. The character of Valgerda, while an archetypal Evil Queen/Femme Fatale, is so blinded by her love for Hildegarde that she gets into a big trouble herself with the Devil. I've found her passionate prayer to Satan, inflamed by wanton lust and unrequited love, absolutely priceless.

Too bad not much information is available on the artist, except his real name is Bernard Duffossé.
