The book appeals to those interested in history and embroidery. Great book with samplers from young American girls and one boy. Thesesamplers span a time frame of the American Revolution to the Civil War. There is a page or two of biographic information provided on each stitcher which just makes the book for me. Each sampler is charted so it can be reproduced with instruction provided on some of the more difficult stitches used.

Lots about death and obedience. I was surprised by how many women married late or not at all.
