Women in the New Testament: Questions and Commentary
Bonnie Thurston examines the personalities, place, and power of women in the New Testament. She provides a cultural and religious context for them by briefly outlining the position of women in the Greco-Roman world. The aim is to reveal the ways in which early Christianity attempted to liberate people from oppression (particularly patriarchy), as well as to point out the places and ways in which the early Christian community compromised with the dominant society.

An interesting look at the treatment of women in various texts in the New Testament. I found the comments on the Pauline Letters particularly thought provoking.

The commentary was a bit dry, but interesting when you get past that. I liked the historical context that Thurston added. My biggest complaint is that Thurston mentioned other scholars' opinions only in vague single sentences which left me feeling like I didn't have enough information to even grasp what that opinion really was.
