Army Firefighting details the history of this low-density military occupational specialty which represents a small section of the Corps of Engineers. Beginning with the Civil War through present day, this historical perspective contains the lineage and history of Army fire fighting units and includes unit rosters, activations and deactivations, deployment locations and description of some of the major fires fought. The book also contains photographs of Army fire fighters during World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm and the War on Terrorism. Using interviews, correspondence and diaries, as well as archived material, Leroy Allen Ward tells the remarkable story of the Army's Engineer Firefighters.
Can’t fault it for its intricate detail, and wish there was more books like this out there. However some further development on stories from major incidents and action during conflict would have been nice instead of focusing so intensely on the formation of units, specifically more information on the modern day activities. But this is just personal preference and doesn’t takeaway from the book as it was very interesting and extremely well researched. Very much one of a kind especially the section on WW1 and Korea
Would love to get a copy of the two books referenced, Burns on Blazes by Robert T Burns, and Fire Fighters in Fatigues: The 1204th Engineer Fire Fighting Platoon, a History by James Davis. Both extremely hard to find !
