This title is one of the “Contemporary Lives” series and traces the singing career of Adele. Conversational text describes her underprivileged early life with an absent father, her extraordinary interest in music and her mother’s determination to nurture her daughter’s talent. That determination pushed Adele to apply to the BRIT school for performing artists. It was there her talents were realized and she cultivated her signature sultry style. Posting her demo tracks on MySpace brought her to the attention of the recording industry and, as they say, “the rest is history.” This is an engrossing read, with lots of photographs and fact bites scattered throughout. Back matter includes glossary, timeline, resources, websites, source notes and index. Contemporary artists are always popular topics and this title would be a great addition to any library.
