Predictions of how the end of the world would come flourished on the news, late night talk shows poked fun at the predictions just before the Mayan calendar ended on December 21st, 2012.
We are all still here, and the shift in polarity didn’t send everything not nailed down flying out into the stratosphere. Something did happen though, a life changing and startling rush of new awareness.
On December 21st, 2012 in the early morning, Sebastian Ellis, an artist, disappeared into particles that are invisible to the naked eye, and merged with that ineffable presence known as nothingness, awareness, divine presence. He has been trying to find the words to tell his story ever since.
Three years later the world is changing (more slowly than mortals would like, but according to Mother Nature's timetable it is moving very fast) to a new level of consciousness as predicted by the Mayans and their calendar.
Three people, the leaders of this new consciousness, the "teachers" in the awareness of this shifting consciousness, are telling their stories about how they came to meet and help each other. They are Sebastian, Romi and Jaad.
Sebastian, our narrator has picked up psychic powers following a transcendent moment that transported him to a whole new dimension (of consciousness) and then returned him in a blissful but somewhat scattered state.
Early on after his experience he has premonitions about someone coming. Someone to guide him, to clarify what has happened, a teacher that will teach him what he must now do (teach).
But before he can teach, he must be grounded and able to integrate his new insights and powers into the everyday world. Romi is on her way to help him do, exactly that.
Jaad is being drawn to Sebastian for a different reason - to get answers about his history and how it ties to his new consciousness. Sebastian will be able to help Jaad up to a point, but then will take him to meet with Romi.
In this first episode of a six episode series, Romi emerges as the glue, the one who will sort it all out and eventually establish a community of teachers in Belize. But who is Romi and what makes her so special? That’s what this episode reveals.
I really wanted to like this book. The description sounded like something right up my alley. The publisher gifted me a copy in exchange for an honest review, so here goes...
It's a bit disjointed. I will admit that I didn't realize when I started the book that there was more than one author, but knowing that now - it most definitely shows in the writing and structure of the book. The common thread and writing style is sorely missing and really needed a good edit to pull it together. Several times within the first 25% I was utterly and completely lost. I had very little idea of what the heck was going on.
The thing is that it started out pretty strong. The description pulls you in and the start premise is kind of awesome too... and then it just tapers off. I loved the idea of a medical intuitive person and the play in with the Mayan calendar, etc. I skimmed the last half of it because I gave up when I realized I didn't know what was going on... and worse... I didn't care.
I give it props for the story and the thought, but the execution is, in my opinion, sorely lacking. It needs more work before it's truly publish-ready. Either that, or perhaps the darn book is just smarter than I am, eh? ;)
Honestly, I'd skip this one all together and that's tough for me to say. I really truly wanted to like it.
