Harishankar Parsai was unequivocally the best satire writer of Indian literature. Parsai Rachnavali contains all his works compiled in 6 volumes. His satires cover almost all the aspects of life, from politics to religion to our daily struggle with life. His writings presents a vivid, clear and very direct picture of human psychology. Satires are written in very simple language but they hit at the right spot. They make you laugh but that laugh is always accompanied with a shock. You may read it ...more

Recommends it for: My friends
He is the best satire writer in hindi, period. If you want to know post independence India through literature just read parsai. He is humorous, witty, thorough and brutally honest. He has a keen eye for details. He does not spare himself too. Well he is my second favorite Hindi write of prose after Premchand (who is the best of course). I would highly recommend him to anybody who wants a good laugh but doesn't like slapstick. His wit will amaze you and entertain you. Most importantly he is a ...more

Harishankar Parsai was one of the greatest hindi satire writer. Despite holding a MA degree in English, he never wrote in this language. Started his career as a teacher, he later quit it to become a full time writer and started a literature magazine "Vasudha"(it was later closed because of financial difficulties).

He was famous for his blunt and pinching style of writing which included allegorical
