A biographical portrait of the Mendelssohn family spanning nearly 125 years, beginning with philosopher Moses and ending with the musician Felix. An invaluable source book for understanding this great family. ILLUS. THIS TITLE IS CITED AND RECOMMENDED Books for College Libraries.
Although I learned a lot, many of the letters did not add to my understanding of Moses and of Felix Mendelssohn, the two giants which inspired my buying of this book. Furthermore, the formatting lacks and there were many “imperfections” and translation errors, to the point that it was difficult to understand who is writing which letter.
Long rambling descriptions of country side life and letters that seem to be fillers did not add to the general enjoyment.
