The Gospels record the events of Jesus’ life. They do not include the background information everyone knew at the time they were written. We know a great deal more than what the Bible mentions of the culture, economics, political and religious climate. I hope this provokes-in a good way-the reader to think deeply about the Scriptural account. For fun at times, I ask people, ministers, if they can guess how many people were in Jerusalem the day Jesus died. A normal guess is 25,000 to 50,000. The actual number is documented! This is historical fiction. History, archaeology reveal information that the average person does not know. Some people twist those facts and attempt to disprove the Biblical account. This presents that information in stories that support the faith.
