The ending surprised me! I wasn't familiar with this tale; between the text and illustrations there's a pleasant contrast between historic and modern. I wondered if Miss 3 would be horrified by the mouse getting devoured at the end but she seems to have accepted that life isn't fair and has requested the book several times.

Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
